Update 01.082 - Xbox controller, modding support for upgrade modules, new mission

    Summary
    Xbox controller support has been added to the game! You will now have the option to use a Xbox controller. There is currently one default button layout for testing purposes, but please do not hesitate to give us your feedback and info regarding the layouts you wish to see in the game. We also added modding support for the recently introduced upgrade modules and a new mission for you to try.

    I can't help but feel extreme irritation that Keen is diverting resources to develop an XBOX port before the game is out of "alpha."

    Ok, the mod support for upgrade is making things interesting. I don't think the documentation details all that can be modded though.

    Sweet. WinXP/2003 havok dll fixed! Spinning up my dedicated server again as I type (hopefully)!

    EDIT #1: Yes! My dedicated Win2003 is once again working! Thanks!

    EDIT #2: I'm liking the 3 new Keen mods...feels like they should be part of the vanilla game but I understand they are examples for mod authors to create similar types of mods. Installed!!!

    I can't possibly imagine this took them more than an afternoon to implement but actual diverting aside it does send a rather worrying message. Maybe unintentional so, but still.

    Yeah, it kind of feels like they're trying too peak early. Get it into full release before you port it, Keen! At least get the multi-player sorted out before then...and make sure that you explicitly state that there has to be cross-platform play. Microsoft likes to be stingy with online play and not share. I wonder how they'll do the updates. Will you have to buy a new copy every so often, or will they do game data updates?

    Tried a random corrupted file.

    Still corrupted.

    A little underwhelming with the core of the update being controllers, with very few people really care about, XBox related stuff IMHO should be left till the game is finished (Yes I know some development considerations must be made when adapting to consoles, but the priority should really be getting the game feature complete and as bug free as possible first). But besides that the modable modules offer so many fun possibilities *evil laughter* Suddenly player built missiles are gonna be a lot scarier XP

    Roll your eyes all you want, the idea that they're working on an XBOX port rather than bringing the game closer to "gold" before branching out to other platforms, is troubling to me. I would much rather see development stay focused on getting the game finished for PC first, then port to other platforms.

    Nah. I'm sure SOMEONE will be happy about the bug fixes, that's always a plus. It's usefulness (both initself and in bringing the game closer to at least BETA) is, though, you know... insular.

    This update might be welcome in my opinion but i would've rather seen a minor fix in the Multiplayer Stability. since it is still wonky at times.
    Please Keensoftware. Fix the Multiplayer Issues.

    Combine that with the Tweet Merek sent out : "What would you say if you got 100% (full) access to Space Engineers' source code and could add/modify anything you want?"

    Really? I paid for this game and you're going to make it open source????

    And why would *you* know better?

    This update is useless to me - but I'm sure they are still working on other things as well. Software development takes time. They are concurrently working on bigger things while they release the smaller things that they have ready.

    Just have to wait.
