Not many creation contest are posted here. Oh well.

Video: (Video will be posted this coming Saturday)

Hello there every one, Ranos here and welcome to my 4th build contest. One thing I have noticed over the past few years is less and less people taking part, and it's all due to the size of the ships, they keep getting bigger and bigger. So there is going to be a size limit from now on, with this one most likely being the smallest one. So this years theme is Small and Compact. So lets see how well you guys can pact so much into a small space.

This years theme is: Small and Compacted

    Rules:
1: Build a large ship that is able to fly on planets and space.
2: It must have a large hangar for the mod reviews to take place in.
3: The floor of the hangar must be armour blocks so I can place mod blocks on them.
4: Other rooms it will need to have: Captains Quarters, Craw Quarters for a minimum of 4, 64 max, mess hall, infirmary, bridge and briefing room. You can have more types of rooms tho.
5: Must have an assembler, refinery and uranium centrifuge (Mod block), but can have more then just one of each.
6: Must have weapon mount points on its sides and/or top.
7: Your ship must be complete before entry.
8: The upload must have "ranos" in the description or title so I can find it.

Hangar size requirements: (Large ship blocks)
    Length: 25-30
    Width: 20-25
    Hight: 12-15

Max Ship Size: (Large ship blocks)
    Length: 75
    Width: 35
    Hight: 20

Small hangars for small ships are acceptable.

Briefing room must have at least 1 LCD for writing mod names and creators on.

The weapon mount point must be empty and have space for a 5x5 turret.

All DLC packs can be used.

    Prizes:
    1st: £100 Steam Gift Card
    2nd: £50 Steam Gift Card
    3rd: £30 Steam Gift Card

10 runner-ups will get a £10 Steam Gift card each.
(Steam will convert the currency. The amount will be effected by current exchange rates.)

Entries must be in by 30th April 2020. Winners will be revealed on 9th May 2020

You want it to have all this and be small.

    Good luck with that.

The Isatamocky in the world linked has all that and is smaller then the max allowed. It's easy to do as long as you know what you're doing.

OK, I had a quick look and your definition of "small" seems to correspond with mine ;) Keen would not consider a ship that has "quarters" for 64 crewmembers small, but I would :D

Might want to define "quarters" though. For my crew, "quarters" is a spot on the ship where they won't be in the way. I don't waste money on gravity generators so they don't need beds. They can just velco themselves to a wall or something when they're not working. Since they're always supposed to be working, I don't see any point in making room for them goof off.

They make a mess wherever they are, so I don't see any point in giving them a hall for it.

They are all issued first aid kits. An infirmary just encourages goldbricking.

The only briefing they need is my standing order to get to work/keep working. Don't need a room for that.

That leaves the bridge, where the Captain gives orders from, and the Captain's Quarters. These are VERY important spaces aboard any of MY ships. The bridge needs to be large enough to swing a crewmember around without hitting anything. That's a lot of room if everyone is wearing an EVA suit.

As Captain I make all the hard decisions. Therefore it is imperative that I not be distracted by a lack of space or comfort. The Captain's Quarters on my small ships are often mistaken for hangars.

I'm curious. What else would a hangar floor be made out of?

Crew quarters is basicly a dorm room. A bed and locker for each person and 4 people per room. It also says between 4-64, so it can just be a 4 man crew with the captain. As for the mess hall, it's where the crew cooks and eats their meals, so basicly a kitchen. An infirmary is mandatory by intergalactic law, and by almost every country in the real world too. The bridge is where the crew control and fly the ship. As for the hangar floor, I've seen most being made from connectors, blast door parts, hangar doors, windows, conveyors and sevral other things.

From what you have said above, your ships do not meet intergalactic law standards and thus, can not be accepted.

This is one of my small ships. It doesn't have a "hangar".

It should meet the approval of this galaxy. I don't know about the others.

There are beds for twelve crew members. It also has 20 staterooms for passengers. If I have three shifts working that means there's sleeping accommodations for 36 crewmembers. It's made for hauling cargo, so no refineries. It has an assembler for making spare parts. As I said, no hangars but the entire lower deck is open and large enough to accomodate most small grid ships (but there is a strict rule against flying around in the deck area. Makes the passengers nervous).

Since we operate in open space, we don't pay much attention to anyone's laws.

    Except Newton's.

Not bad. Looks like it works well.

(For the sake of the contest, this ship cannot be accepted)

Wow, this looks a lot like last year's contest with its requirements. And a massive hangar again. Given the ship's L×W×H limits of 75×35×20 blocks, the hangar is about a third of its length, more than half its width, and more than half its height. In other words, this ship is really just a big flying hangar.

All-in-all, it'll still be a large ship. The term "small-and-compact" is only relative to the monster I built last year.

OK. I can do this. I'll scratch my head a bit before setting the first block.

I was getting it to. One of the mods isn't working properly. I need to remove all the mods and then add them again, I'll fix it when I get back from work today.
    --- Automerge ---
After looking at the text, seems like the hunger and thirst mod may still be active.

Meh, I feel bad for being this disorganized this year :(

That was fast, and it looks interesting. I need to take a good look inside.

As the the world, I've finished updating all the mods, as well as updating the Isatamocky. It's been a little over 4 years since it's had any work done to it.

Quick two-part question: Your "world" includes many mods that I won't use, and does not include some mods that I would use (such as more powerful gyros). Can I eliminate all the mods I don't want to use, and add additional mods as-needed that I do want to use?

    Yes, you can do that.

OK, buddy. I've tossed my ship over the wall...

Inspired by the great past "whisky" ships Oban Tide and Spirit of Lomond, and the more recent "whisky" ships of my own design, Talisker by the Sea and Royal Lochnagar, I present to you Mists of Lagavulin, a versatile multipurpose interplanetary ship designed for transportation, exploration, and colonization. The Mists of Lagavulin is built as a competition submittal to Ranos' 4th Ship Building Contest.
