Sounds like an interesting idea, but if it's a station why do you need thrusters? It seems to me the station would need a survival kit if only to jump start the building process and create a respawn point. I would exclude oxygen and hydrogen bottles to make the player work a bit to get the building/expansion process going. Does that make sense?

Depends if it's a supposed to be an anchored (asteroid) station or a free-floating one. Free-floating stations are just very slow space ships after all.

Yup, if you ever need to move it to a new location, best thing is to have at least a little flight control just to bring it to a perfect stop and get it aligned like you want before turning it back into a station. I think the confusion was the way I was using the word "station".

"turning it back to a station" is - afaik - not possible by default for free-floating stations. Need to enable the option for that to be possible.

OK, thrusters and a basic flight control there shall be. I’ve already started work on “Derelict Starter Station 1”, for lack of a better name right now.

Spiff's Practical Engineered Solutions, a division of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, presents Claw Electric Miner with four optimally-spaced drills (based on the not-so-famous, but highly successful Sprite offworld miner), and one medium and one large cargo container for ore storage. With realistic (i.e., 1-1-1) settings, the ore capacity of the cargo containers, cockpit, connector, four drills, and the player (at 10X capacity) is approximately 104 tons, with an additional 3 tons for ice in the O2/H2 generator. Each drill is equipped with a conveyor sorter and ejector to collect only ore (and ice) and dump stone.

Spiff's Practical Engineered Solutions, a division of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, presents Claw XL Electric Miner with four optimally-spaced drills (based on the not-so-famous, but highly successful Sprite offworld miner), and one (1) medium and two (2) large cargo containers for ore storage. With realistic (i.e., 1-1-1) settings, the ore capacity of the cargo containers, cockpit, connector, four drills, and the player (at 10X capacity) is approximately 147 tons, with an additional 3 tons for ice in the O2/H2 generator. Each drill is equipped with a conveyor sorter and ejector to collect only ore (and ice) and dump stone. Claw XL, with two large cargo containers instead of one, is the big brother to the Claw Electric Miner:

Tested extensively in survival conditions, Claw XL has quickly become my favorite planetary miner for early survival play.

    Royal Lochnagar

    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1938830641

Inspired by the great past ships Oban Tide and Spirit of Lomond, and the more recent ship of my own design, Talisker by the Sea, I present to you Royal Lochnagar, a versatile interplanetary ship designed for exploration and colonization. My most ambitious ship-building project to-date, the Royal Lochnagar is built completely without mods, but does include a single rotor to operate the garage hatch/ramp.

Fully airtight, finished throughout, and self-sufficient, Royal Lochnagar is equipped with a ground-level garage bay and an adjacent ground staging room that includes two ground accessible airlocks with ladder access. To further enhance use of this ship in a survival scenario, all exterior decks and surfaces are accessible without use of a jetpack to allow for repairs and/or maintenance.

Also included in the design are the following spaces:

    - medical services
    - 4 separate crew quarters in pairs adjacent to each other, each housing 3 individuals, including a common space at each end for use as a kitchen/dining facility
    - lizard lounge with 2 bars, a dance floor, and a separate seating area
    - mission briefing center
    - 3 separate flight bays
    - reactor room
    - upper access corridor with 2 jump drives
    - separate, completely furnished staterooms for the executive and commanding officers
    - port and starboard engineering nacelles, each containing:
    > 6 advanced refineries with yield modules,
    > 4 advanced assemblers with speed modules,
    > 3 large cargo containers,
    > 5 hydrogen tanks,
    > 4 oxygen tanks,
    > 6 O2/H2 generators, and
    > 5 small reactors for backup power.
    - bridge

A combination of small and large atmospheric, ion, and hydrogen thrusters are used for propulsion both on planets and in space.

If Royal Lochnagar is pasted in from a blueprint in creative mode, the blueprint will also include three additional vehicles:

    1) Ajax Scout Car: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1938659942
    2) Claw XL Miner (for planets): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1927545182
    3) Sprite Miner (for space): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1880569499

    STINGRAY CORVETTE

    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1940800872

Spiff's Practical Engineered Solutions, a division of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, presents the Stingray Corvette to use for escort or other duties as needed. Designed and built without the use of subgrids (rotors and/or pistons), the Stingray Corvette boasts heavy armor construction, 9 forward-facing rocket launchers in a 3×3 array, 14 gatling turrets, 10 missile turrets, and 19 interior turrets for close-in defense.

A combination of small and large ion and hydrogen thrusters are used for propulsion, and 47 gyroscopes are used for maneuvering. Considering its mass, the thruster/gyroscope combination works well to provide responsive control. A graduated monochromatic color scheme was used to mimic this ship's stingray namesake.

    SKIPJACK TUNNEL MASTER mk2

    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1954555485

    *******************************************************************************************************************
    NEW AND IMPROVED!!!

    1. Completely revised the propulsion system to use hydrogen thrusters so the tunneler will work on planets, moons, or in space (asteroids). Changing to hydrogen thrusters also eliminates the need for the large reactor that was necessary to drive the large atmospheric thrusters in the old design, so it's a much better solution for early survival play when you're trying to establish a new underground base quickly.

    2. Decreased the number of drills and optimized the spacing of the four corner drills; I moved those drills outward and upward/downward one block to eliminate the need to use a hand drill to do final clearing for placement of the corner blocks.

    3. Replaced the blast door guides, which tend to be "sticky", with wheel suspensions. Although a bit "bouncy" when setting the tunneler onto the armor block scaffold line, the wheels guide the tunneler into alignment much more easily and allow the tunneler to move forward much, much more smoothly. (Thanks, Herr Doktor, for the great suggestion!)
    *******************************************************************************************************************

Have you ever wanted to punch a really straight tunnel into a hill or asteroid? Now you can with Spiff's Skipjack Tunnel Master! Designed as a low-budget solution for tunnel creation, this ship will clear a tunnel of any length with a finished inside size of 9-blocks wide and 5-blocks high for installation of airtight hangar doors. Optionally extending the tunneler's drill grid will correspondingly expand the tunnel's size.

    Magellan Intergalactic Exploration

    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2133711375

Spiff's Practical Engineered Solutions, a division of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, presents Magellan Intergalactic Explorer, a long-range exploration ship expressly designed for finding and colonizing distant worlds.

Utilizing known and proven technology, Spiff's Practical Engineered Solutions designed Magellan as a refitted assemblage from many different advanced sources: a bridge/bow module from a Class III Locke-Horne Starliner, living modules from a Zirculli offworld outpost, docking bay modules from a Tongon spaceport, thruster modules from a Reidan dreadnaught (retrofitted with four oxygen farms each for supplemental life support), and a military-grade power/dual jump drive module from a Phalanx Class Interdictor that comprises the waist assembly to which everything is tied. The addition of five large atmospheric and numerous hydrogen lift thrusters, enhanced by a thrust-optimizing turbo entabulator (i.e., rotating structure above the thrusters), between the waist assembly and docking bay modules significantly increases planetary operation time, and space between the two docking bays was added to integrate two fully equipped advanced refineries and assemblers, two hydrogen engines for backup power, a large cargo container, probe control and docking, cryogenics bays, and ground access via a personnel airlock. Magellan is fully equipped for a crew of 16 in addition to a commanding officer and executive officer.

Magellan includes a fully equipped bridge, briefing room, medical bay, and officer quarters in the bow/bridge module; a crew mess, two living modules with eight crew quarters each, and a power bay in the waist module; and a cargo/cryogenics bay, two pressurized docking bays, and a dedicated docking port for the Magellan's remotely-controlled probe in the aft module. Two additional external docking connectors with walk-up access allow for two additional ship connection points. With the single exception of the bridge/bow module and thruster modules, all external surfaces are accessible without a jetpack. Magellan's external defensive weapons are limited to two gatling turrets and nine internal turrets; no offensive weapons are included.

Magellan's remotely-operated probe is optimally designed for space operations, however two atmospheric lift thrusters and the use of its ion thrusters will allow for rudimentary operation in a planet's atmosphere.

Magellan utilizes two scripts during normal operation:
    • Isy's Simple Doors (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1751168996), and
    • MMaster's Automatic LCDs 2 (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=822950976).

A third script, nicknds's NDS Ascent Control (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1833381113), may optionally be used to automate the planet-to-space ascent process, but at the cost of additional hydrogen fuel because of its non-optimized operation.

No mods are utilized in this build.

As a follow-on to the rather "flop-ish" Magellan Intergalactic Explorer that I presented, above, I extracted a bay module and modified it to be a standalone blueprint for adding to any ship or station. It's got a lot of versatility and potential for future builds. This is a pure vanilla version without the use of mods, DLC, and/or scripts.

    You're too kind.

I try to be creative when I do the naming thing. and the process can take several days before something appropriate finally unsticks from between my ears. Some are just flippant, but most are based on me thinking, "Now where would I expect to see this thing?" That's what happened with this one. (For awhile it had "copper" in its name.)
