    Hello there,

i just build my first windmill in survivalmode and realized, that we are not able to connect any own custom build mechanics to the "mechanical blocks".

After trying many things in creative it seems like those "mechanical blocks" (including the windmill itself) can only be connected to other "mechanical blocks".

So how can we power our own mechanics???
Elevators, farming machines, ... any other stuff, that might come into the mind of an real engineer.

Did Keen really remove the only power source (the old windmill rotor) within 0.6 and replaced it by... nothing?

We are engineers! We need to power our machines. We can't do everything hand-powered, that's not engineer-like.

If it really is like i said above, is Keen working on a solution? Is there maybe already a mod therefore?
All we need is a universal interface "mechanical block", which transfers the rotation from the windmill e.g. to a round timber where we can connect anything.

Looking forward to replies, did you made the same experience, do you have a possible solution?

    Greetings

Yeah, if we could attach round timbers or a catch block to the end of the shaft it would let us engineer all kinds of crazy things.

You can harness the power of Clang. I have seen at least three different versions of Clang power, the most powerful takes about the same space as the old rotor block to create. One of these contrivance is capable of being made dynamic, but does not have quite enough torque to move its self in an automated fashion.
    Engineer?

I'm no space engineer. I don't know about clang.
Examples? Where have you seen what in which version?

I'm not talking about any magical infinite power source out of nothing.
A mechanical block shaft Interface would solve everything.

    Yes?

Hail Clang, for his is the earliest of access.
You already pointed out there is no block interface, but proceed to ask how we can power our own things. The only answer I have right now is using the properties of the blocks and their functions to 'fool' the game into creating constant motion. While it may seem like magical infinite free energy it is what we have until (unless) a mechanical interface block is released.

I have seen two versions on DS where I play and there is one here on the forum, named the Clang Dynamo, second page on this thread: https://forums.keenswh.com/threads/...ant-to-make-a-new-topic-thread.7330611page-$1.html.
Clang is simply described as unexpected or un-intended physics actions, in SE or ME. However, once you discover how Clang is exploitable you can leverage your engineering skills and create some incredible things. The most powerful Clang engine I have seen was used to power an automated catapult which rapidly threw the large projectiles a good distance. It could also be configured to raise or lower an elevator at a steady smooth rate.
The TLDR is the best engineering comes from thinking outside the blocks, at least until all the blocks are in the game.
