I put an interior light on the outside of my ship and set it to flash with all the settings turned up as high as possible. Basically a navigation strobe light. The flashing is visible from inside the ship, which has no windows

The only thing I can think of is when I add navigational lights (red, green, white etc) is I put the radius to the minimum. This should stop any bleed through the walls but its still very bright on the exterior of your ship.

interior lights are performance friendly lights, the light from these will go through blocks, Spot lights are the more realistic lights, that cast shadows and cant just go through blocks, but his comes at a cost of a much bigger performance hit :)
