Hi all, came here for a bit of advice please.

Situation is as follows - I have a dedicated SE server on a VM on my LAN, running on port 27016 (default). OS is Windows 2008 R2. Firewall has been disabled. SE server is set to "Public".

First I checked LAN connectivity, and yes, it works. It shows up both in the Steam server list and in the ingame browser, under the "LAN" tab.

I tend forwarded the ports, specifically all the ports listed here -> https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8571-GLVN-8711 (And port 8766...which apparently is some Steam Master server port...).

This is not my first time forwarding ports, I've done it for ages for other games...so for sure there is something I'm missing, like a stupid mistake.

The server does not appear under the "Internet" tab. I even tried running (and forwarding) ports different from 27016...and not only it still does not show up on "Internet" tab, it won't show up under the "LAN" tab either...so I reverted back to 27016.

Thank you, and if you need any more info just let me know. Really wish to get this up and running.

As an all or nothing strategy, try setting port type to both UDP and TCP for each port.

In your VM host, how do you have the NIC adapter set?
I use bridged, bridgedadapter set to eth0, and MAC address forced and DNS forced to a static IP address through my router for that Mac and the IP I want it to bind to.

There might be something in your host blocking it. What OS do you run as the host? Some versions of Linux are strict when it comes to port communications, if Linux(and not ubuntu), look into iptables.

Oracle VM? Try installing expansion pack and the guest additions in the guest OS, if you haven't.

Off the top of my head these are some ideas I would try. Some more info about your setup is needed for us to diagnose issue in finer detail.

Another simple test you can perform is to take the game port (27016) and run it thru any port-checking website.

    Here is one: https://www.canyouseeme.org/

Thanks both. OS as mentioned is Win 2008 R2. I'll try setting both UDP/TCP. VM is configured correctly because other game servers on the same VM are externally accessible. Guest additions are installed as well. NIC is set to bridged too.

I tried the test...for some reason it's saying 27016 is blocked O.O I'll have to check that. Hope it's not an ISP issue.

    Again, thank you

    Hi,

For Space Engineers Dedicated server you need only the instance port forwarded, 27016 by default, the rest of the ports should be just set open on the firewall (I have a rule to allow all outgoing traffic from LAN to WAN so I do not have to open ports from the inside).

I'm close to throwing in the towel at this point.

Any port checker I use says that "27016-27050" are all closed...yet they are forwarded. I tried another steam game, and it worked (my friend was able to connect).

Even so, I still tried from other VMs and physical machines...same thing.

I'll keep trying tomorrow, cause I've been hours (well, days) at this, maybe in the future we'll get a connect by IP function in the game.

Thanks everybody for your help, if I manage to get it working, I'll let you know.

I just noticed, that you have 27014-27050 bound in one instance,
and also Space Engineers bound to the specific port, which is already in the
other set's range; it probably is messing with your port configuration.

For your Game Server - Steam 2, try going around the 27106, or even removing the SE
setting all together since you have it defined already and at that even to the same sub-net IP.

In any case, my router will not allow me to use a port already bound, it notifies me
to either remove or edit the previous entry that it has it in.

    Hi all,

First of all thank you for all the PMs, I'll get to them in a moment hehe.

@Gimmil, yes you are right, my router does that too, though in this case it allowed it because one is UDP, the other is TCP (I could have set one entry to "Both").

I'm going to clear everything at this stage, and start looking at the suggestions and help in the PMs.

    Again, thank you!

Any update on this? I seem to be running into the same issue on the server I am running from a data center in Chicago and am unable to see the server outside of local LAN.

Hello XiCynx...sadly not. I've been trying loads of different things. I managed to get the port scanner to show my ports as open (I'm using this https://www.ipfingerprints.com/portscan.php and set it to scan UDP from the "Advance" button).

But getting it to show on the Steam Internet list still eludes me.

Dang, I started everything from default just like you did too.

IP is static and will never change
Steam ports: 3478, 4379, 4380, 8766, 27000-27037 both UDP and TCP are open
Steam itself is allowed through the firewall
SpaceEngineers 27050 port is open for UDP

Never have been able to see this server on the games list. I am one of the admins for the SteamGroup as well that is allowed to connect to it.

It's strange how so many other people can just get it up and going, I have 9 TF2 server running without a hitch a multiple other Steam Games as well. This one is just a PITA to get up and going for some reason. :woot:

Same here, I have TF, CS and Unreal servers (even used to temporarily run coop borderlands and saints row). This one...no go. I'm surprised you got it running on port 27050, mine doesn't show up under LAN if I don't use 27016.

Going by a long shot here...if you add "zephyris.net:27016" or "92.251.81.16:27016" in the steam fave servers list...does it show up? Cause I'm starting to think my router is blocking "loopback" from the steam server list, and I can't see it cause I'm on the same network.

It's there buddy! I was able to successfully join it as well. :)

Unfortunately... Mine is not even showing up on the server list in Steam, just says server is not responding and I switched it to use the same port as one of my running TF2 servers... /bashes head on wall.

Hi XiCynx, give me the ip-port...I'll see if I can add it via faves. Cause apparently I can't see my own server, but you can see it externally :woot: If this method works, at least there is a way for external users :)

Well you see, I have a dedicated box collocated in Chicago. So the server I am setting this up on is not on the same computer I am playing from. I believe that this is something that may be being blocked on the hosting companies end and I may have to have them look into it as I was not able to find it even after completely disabling the firewall altogether.

So, any hints on this one? I'm running the same firewall as Zephyris13 and having the exact same problem, I can see the server on the LAN tab but not the main one.

@Bacon_Avenger - I found out through other people using Pfsense that the firewall blocks loopback.

The server still appears on the public list, just not for you. In my case my friends (who aren't on my lan) can see and connect to my server with no problems at all.

What I did in my case is I gave my friends my IP and Port, so from Steam they go to "View" -> "Servers" -> Fave tab, then manually add my server via IP and Port...and it works beautifully.

Ah, so it's one of those games that don't like the was pfs handles it, gotcha.

I know that a lot of source games have problems with it and often setting a static port in the advanced outbound NAT will get it working correctly, but it didn't seem to work for SE. Ah well.

Cool, thanks for the tip, I'll probably go this route with the group instead of having to hunt through the list in-game. :)

Has anyone found a proper solution to this issue? I have attempted every suggestion in this thread with no luck. :(
