So I saw people on here doing some importing of .obj files into the game. So I thought to myself, since I don't have the script to do this, but I do have every ship model from Eve (and about 8 modeling programs...) Why not start creating voxel images of stuff if people want them?

So here are the latest ones.

I just chose random ones, and their block count is super high right now. I can lower them to make it easier to import into the game.

Verry nice work. Are the models up to scale? 15km Erebus :eek:ops:

They are at 90% right now. Once the game gets to handle large worlds better, we will import the full scale model in. Right now, we scaled down an Algos to about 25% and imported it without problems.

How does the import work? do you just move the file into a folder or do you need a script ? Also is there a difference if you import a modell as large or small ship ?

Importing it requires a script. Two guys have written two different scripts so far for the game. I'm working on this with one of the guys. He wrote his script and it includes the corner blocks also, but he is asleep right now so I am just getting the models ready for him to put into his script and insert into the game.

Right now, I think it just inserts it. It doesn't make it a ship, if I remember. I have one we did of the Algos. It is about 25% of the normal size, but I haven't tried to fly it yet.

So good news on this! I successfully imported a Caldari Naga into SE. The one downsize is that the ship is so large that when I try to open the world save, the game shoots up to 3.1GB of RAM and won't load.. :/

Right now, the largest ships that I can stably import into the game are the small carriers. I got one destroyer in so far, but the game can't handle much else.

Is that due to the game or your PC?

i can test things on my PC or in virtual machines due to having access to some pretty high spec gear

That is the game. If the game would allow me to use most of the power I have in my computer, I could insert a full size Star Destroyer in the game..

Give me a few minutes and I shall add some to here just for you guys to see.

If you can find me a .obj file of it somewhere, then I can make whatever you want.

MORE PROGRESS! I have now made a fair amount of ships so far.

I don't have the names down because when I import them, all I get to see is the type of ship, so if you know the names, please tell me! :D

Here are a few examples. The whole album will be here and I will update it whenever I make new ships. https://imgur.com/a/2KfzL

I know one ship that would be of terrific importance.

    The Rorqual!

Or other industrial ships for that matter. Could be fun fixing them up to a working state :)

Tried it, the ship is too big.. The largest one I can safely import is a Drake.

Thanks for the support man! The larger the ship gets, the more render time I have to devote to this. For every meter cubed the ship model has, it adds about 5-10 seconds to the render time. My latest render, that was stable in SE, took me over 3 hours to render.

So stably rendered out a Drake from Eve. Sadly the game file got corrupted. I shall try again tomorrow. (It took 3 hours to render this, so I might do this in the morning)

The first two pictures are different angles on the Gallente Thorax cruiser, the fourth one is a Minmatar rupture, and I'm not sure about the 3rd and 5th ones, haven't played in a year and a half.

That looks quite insane I must admit. And I did not know about the size/time ratio. Would a mining-barge be of a more doable size? Like a covetor<em id="tinymce" class="mceContentBody " dir="ltr"></em>?
    https://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080726201306/eve/images/6/6b/Covetor.jpg

And other things. Are objects doable? Like a container?

Even though these are bloody fantastic, I'm going to assume they are solid armour with no internal spaces or what have you. This creates a lot of problems when it comes to actually flying these ships, hopefully we can get a program that can make shells.

You could use some thrusters to make it look flyable :)

Is the renderer multi core? i have a 16 core and 32 core AMD build that i could use to put some grunt power towards rendering

The blocks get created only where there's geo, so they're hollow. You could model the inside of the ships as well if you wanted to.

As far as render times goes... I made a small improvement

I rendered out this aircraft carrier, 96,503 blocks, in under a minute.
