Game crashes on load

    The other night I tried to start the game, and I got a crash log. I've tried verifying game files, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, I've tried many things/ideas I have found on Google. Not sure how to make this game work.

    In the crash log it said that it was unable to find the SpaceEngineers.cfg file. Sure enough, the file was missing. I created a blank text file with the same name to see if that would fix the issue; it did not. I am not sure what to do at this point. Any help would be appreciated.

    Have you tried verifying the game files with Steam?

    How to Verify integrity of game cache:

    - Right click on Space Engineers in your Steam Library.
    - Go to properties.
    - Go to LOCAL FILES tab.
    - Click Verify integrity of game cache

    - When done > try the game.

    @mojomann71 Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, verifying file integrity option did not fix my problem. I tried doing that very thing before I reinstalled the game and after. Unfortunately, no joy!

    @Kip Murray , does it crash when opening the game itself or when you try to load a savegame?

    Is is up to date?

    You could also try that tip I´ve learnt here, to go to Steam app and revert it to the previous version, in a more desperate try.

    Hi @J-Cataclism, Thank you for responding.
    It crashes when trying to open the game. I get the splash screen for only a couple seconds, then I get the crash window.
    The game is up-to-date, as well as my Windows.

    Yeah, this whole thing is just a mystery to me.

    So, I went online last night and found someone else's config file that they had posted. I copied and pasted the information into my config. I got a different message this time, but it still crashes. I am currently at work, when I get home I will upload the new crash file.

    I thought so too, but my video drivers are up-to-date. I thought maybe a driver was corrupt, so I reinstalled the current driver. Still no joy.

    so that may be the problem?

    Do you have a graphic card on that PC?

    What is the name of your Graphic card? = that will give more clues to know. :tu:

    @mojomann71, Thank you very much for sharing your config. I did exactly as you suggested. For the first time since this problem happened, it actually took some time to load the game. But it still crashed unfortunately. Below is the pastebin link to the crash log.

    is lower than the minimum to play SE so that will not help for sure.

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M
    3D test = 1886 points

    Minimum to play SE
    Geforce 750 3D test = 3319 points

    The strange thing is, I've been playing Space Engineers on this computer since the early days. Never have I ever had a problem, until this past week or so. I really don't know what happened. I will send a support ticket to the programmers and see what they say.

    I have noticed that they were trying to make it work for Intel HD GPU users so send all the info you can in a "Request for help"

    If it's not the game = things you could try :

    Verify game cache with Steam
    +
    Uninstall the game and delete all remaining in appdata SE before reinstalling the game.

    Also when I can't play my Fav games = I do a fresh installation of my Graphic driver and usually fixes if it was a bad update installation.

    1 - I uninstall the GTX Driver from windows programs.
    2 - When done > I go delete the NVIDIA folder on the C: Drive.
    3 - Restart the PC and reinstall the GPU Driver using "Experience" app from the NVIDIA website (auto Driver installer)

    I know some members had to FIX/Repair Windows because of a bad Windows update installation to be able to play SE.

    @Dan2D3D, one of the things I had tried before coming onto the forums was deleting the game and all its files in their entirety.
    But tonight I reinstalled the NVIDIA drivers with no success in getting the game to run.
    What do you mean by fix/repair windows.

    our server currently is facing constant crashes/reboots, during play sessions, the network load is to high, which means, if you network speed on server side is not above 25mbit the least, the network runs fine as long 6 players are connected, with 7+ more, the network load increase drastically and causes some delays, even disconnects, up to reboots of the server.

    Thank you @Ljorius for that breakdown of your server performance. I am not connecting to any servers. I am simply playing single player on my own machine. So network connectivity and server loads are not something I have to contend with.

    Just sharing something I saw on the SE forums, even some members reinstalled Windows (restore to factory), some used the Repair tools on the Window Microsoft website to repaire broken files in their Windows after a Window bad auto update installation.

    what i saw during my play, is that the client also starts at some point collecting a big amount of memory, like the server, reason unknown.

    @Dan2D3D in one of your comments you mentioned that some members had to reinstall Windows to make this work. Well, you can count me as one of them. This weekend I reinstalled Windows on my laptop machine, and the game is working like a charm. I do appreciate all the input and suggestions from everyone, I am just happy to announce that my issue was resolved. I just wish there was an easier way.

    On a side note, I did leave a support ticket with Keen; their support staff is super nice. Extremely unhelpful, but super nice. The best they could do for me was to tell me, "wait for the next update to see if your issue has been resolved."
    I wasn't happy with that suggestion, but if they aren't going to give me any other advice, then I am not going to make a big deal. So, I just moved forward without them. But... in the end... they were very very nice to chat with over the email.
