    Hyperion Systems [HS]

    Description:

Hyperion Systems [HS] is multinational defence, security and aerospace company based on Ceres. It is the primary military contractor of Ceresian Economic Union [CEU] and a wholly owned subsidiary of Standard Interplanetary Mining [SIM], a partially state owned mining conglomerate also based on Ceres. Whilst primarily concerned with the construction and maintenance of the CEU Fleet, Hyperion Systems also sells several of it's smaller models to private security companies, mercenaries and CEU endorsed privateers.

    Design Approach:

Hyperion Systems ships are designed to fulfil a specific role in a fleet, with only a few multi-role vessels. These ships often prioritise speed over armour, and most avoid the added weight of industrial support systems in favour of superior performance in their role. Due to their specialisation, these vessels work most effectively as part of a fleet, where each ship's vulnerabilities can be mitigated through other ship's strengths.

    Colour Schemes:

CEU Fleet: Blue, Light Grey, Dark Grey, Black
The Black Rose: Red, Black, Dark Grey, Light Grey

    Ship Names:

    Design notes:
In general, my ships are designed for team based PvP with a small number of players. Different combinations of ships in small groups will hopefully allow multiple fleet builds and tactics for relatively quick, deathmatch style games.

Workshop mods will not be used in Hyperion Systems ships. For modded ships there will be a new Collection: Hyperion Systems: Experimental Division. There will also be no purely civilian or industrial vessels, these will be in the Standard Interplanetary Mining Collection.

    Small Attack Craft:

These small, fast and agile craft are usually deployed in groups from Carriers. Very difficult to hit while moving, their main defence is speed. This ship class includes the Dragonfly Fighter, the Locust Bomber, the Scarab Strike Bomber and the Wasp Interceptor.

    Heavy Small Attack Craft:

With considerably more firepower than their smaller cousins, these HSAC were designed to combine the heavy weaponry of larger ships with the speed and mobility of smaller vessels. These particular vessels are currently unique within Hyperion Systems, as they use a design that incorporates a rotor for small ship large ship interaction. These ships are known as the Tsunami Series. Due to similarities with ships produced by a rival corporation, rumors of industrial espionage persist.

    Workshop Link:
    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=443965173

    Notes:
Use of a rotor means these ships are limited in their use in survival due to the multi grid limitations of projectors. They work a treat in low latency PvP set pieces though.

    Inspiration:
Utilises Ravric's efficient Large ship/small ship rotor and connector design. Seriously, this guy is like the King of Rotors.

What I've never really gotten a handle of, which you seem to have down packed, is shape philosophy.

All of your ships have a particular line or design philosophy to them, whereas mine are irregular and not uniform by any stretch of the imagination.

    Thanks guys!

More Hyperion Systems ships are currently in production. New Frigates, UFAC, Corvettes, FAC and a Carrier. Maybe some Destroyers too.

Expect to see more of Standard Interplanetary Mining [SIM] too. I'm quite enjoying building industrial equipment right now.

Any finally, I'm in the preliminary stages of starting a third corporation, an as yet unnamed company specializing in "hero" class star ships for my fleet. (Mods. Mods. Mods!)

@Agnar Some of the opportunities are to good to completely pass up. "Small ships gone large" spring to mind immediately, However, because mods are way off when it comes to balance, I didn't want to mix them with my Vanilla stuff.

Then I had an idea. What about if I built them as unique higher power ships for "Heroes", like how you control, for example, Jim Raynor in Starcraft. Then I could put them PVP matches with my other ships. We shall see. I've got a lot of other projects to finish first.

As far as modded authors go I would say I am much closer to the vanilla side... there are some people who's ships don't even look like they were made in SE. The only regret I have about using mods is being stuck in DX9, but since I can't stand the DX11 implementation anyway, it works out.

Looking forward to see your frigates. Hoping there will be a variety such as, support assault and ultra light carrier types.

I've nearly finished 4 frigates: Support, Torpedo, FAC Defence and Hunter Killer
They are all around 3 times heavier than my corvettes, so they take a lot longer. I will hopefully do a few more, but not for a little while yet, I get bored just building one class.

I also have a carrier that's 75% done. It is roughly 3 times heavier than the frigates.

I've also got plans for 4 UFAC, 2-3 more corvettes, 2 light carriers and 2-3 destroyers.

Hopefully, most of these will be on the workshop next month. I'll try to get a screenshot up next week.

Mmmm :D They look fantastic! Is that brownish tint a result of dx11 or did u change your color scheme?

none of those look like frigates- at least not by my scaling.

Yep. The Timber Wolf has twin torpedo launchers. Each can fire Standard Grav Piercing, High Explosive Grav Piercing and ECM. A ECM/HE mix is particularly effective.

Haha, I know. When building my ships, I tend to match the current naval ships class plus 10-30%. This makes my frigates pretty big as far as the meta goes. A Type 26 Global Combat Ship (Frigate) is 148.5m, these are all around 180m long.

They're all nice but the Doberman really stands out - looks superb from the angles we've seen so far. The Warhound is also a favourite.

What sort of mass are we looking at?

    Thanks!

Some details (Might be wrong, too many figures to remember right now!):
    Doberman Heavy Support Frigate
6,000 Tons, 4+m/s acceleration, carries 4 x support drones (any combination of repair, cargo and tanker) and a shed load of industrial gear. 4 Refinerys, 4 Arc Furnaces, 4 Oxygen Generators and 20 Assemblers. Upgrade Modules throughout. 3 JDs.

    Timber Wolf Torpedo Frigate
4,300 Tons, 4.5m/s acceleration, twin torpedo launchers with three torpedo variants, certified to pass Killer Vanilla Round Three. Killed a large bird too :D. Currently the CEU's best weapon for countering the PR's Battleships and Dreadnoughts. JD not yet installed.

    Jackal Hunter Killer Frigate
4,100 Tons, 5m/s acceleration, 20 forward facing rocket launchers, extra mobility from higher than class average number of maneuvering thrusters, presents small target on approach. 2 JD. Pretty much an upscaled Tiger Corvette, and as such, looks better from below. Built to fight Frigates/Destroyers/Cruisers.

    Warhound Defence Frigate
4,100 Tons, 3.5m/s acceleration, carries 2 Wasps/Dragonflies/Locusts, has an unreasonable amount of missile turrets for eliminating multiple FAC, probably the toughest of the class so far. JD not yet installed.

100% Vanilla. They all have heavy armour skeletons, but are mostly light armour/interior walls as they are built for relatively good speed and mobility. Resilience will be provided by the upcoming destroyer class. They all have medical facilities and sufficient Cryotubes for the crew.

It's getting quite tricky to get decent ship performance at this size. With the exception of Carriers, I'm not sure whether to go larger or fill out the smaller classes. There is now a huge gap in my fleet between 2,000 and 4,000 Tons. Heavy Corvettes and Fast Frigates sound good to me.

You've managed to build almost all of those in a weight class we've traditionally not had a lot of ships in!

Our largest Frigate is currently 3,314 tonnes (Buzzard) with our Destroyers coming in at 4058, 4646, 5128 and 5185 tonnes. Smallest cruiser at 4,996 (Drake) We don't use just the mass alone to determine class; role plays a part as well as does just the 'feel' of the ship but for the most part they do tend to fall into certain weight brackets, with a bit of overlap at the extremes.

The performance isn't as bad as you think! Most TVSI ships are built with speed in mind, or at least a big effort is made to maximise thruster placements. Some comparison speeds for reference... (* TVSI-Tech Prometheus Thruster ** Titan Engine)

    Corvette: 6.08 (Barracuda*), 6.65 (Swordfish)
    Frigate: 4.40 (Pilatus), 4.50 (Kinabalu*)
    Cruiser: 3.10 (Osiris)
Battlecruiser: 6.31 (Raptor II**) - Note, uses Titan Engine which isn't balanced to Keen stats unlike the Prometheus. Also a ship designed for speed.
    Battleship: 2.79 (Ifrit**)
    Dreadnought: 1.13 (Avalon)

In all honesty, I actually really like the speed-curves across the range. When you get in one and fly it, it feels like what it should be. Anyway, point being, your speeds are actually very good for the size!

@Tristavius I have a spreadsheet that lists all my existing and future ships. Do you have a spreadsheet or something similar with all your ship details? The image is awesome, but it's a bit unwieldy for extracting data. I'd like to try to sync classes to some degree. I'm thinking these "frigates" might actually be better split up into different classes, 3 Heavy Frigates and 1 Light Cruiser. I want to keep destroyers similar to frigates but with heavier armour, so if I shrink my frigate class to around 3,000t, my destroyers will hopefully come out at around 5,000t, which make things a bit closer to the canon. I need to sort this before I upload really.

Lore wise, I've been thinking it makes sense to concentrate on smaller, fast, agile ships since these would likely be better suited to an asteroid field. Also goes quite well with Red, Blue and Green's historic piracy in the belt.

Thanks, I've read that before, great stuff BTW. It seems you've left things fairly vague to keep it simple. If it were you, how would you class the four "frigates"? Details are a few posts back.

Most of it would be similar to what you've already called them based on the descriptions you provided. Just a little renaming of what basically means the same thing:

    HvySuFF - Heavy Support Frigate

    ArFF - Artillery Frigate

This one i might actually call an interdictor or an assault. The designation would be IntFF and AsFF, respectively

This one would probably also fall under AsFF - Assault Frigate

@Lord Commissar Thanks. I think I'll see how the rest of this batch turn out and look again, I think I've missed a class somehow.
