the poly count is 818, almost 3x the original. I took reference from the gatling gun(around 1500 tris).I haven't started shaving polys off yet. I just wanted to see if it would work in game.

mk2! I do not have access to any image editing software, so I used the texture from the largeblock-largethrust. the poly count is at 1176.

    Great job so far!

Are you able to chose how much power/thrust they are able to dish out?

    A few ideas:

Maneuvering jet: fastest time to max speed, but it is locked at just, 10 letting you dock at a more controlled speed, these jets would use almost no fuel.

Cruise jets, good acceleration with a decent speed at around 70.

Cruise jets (Large) Designed for your battleship and larger, it gets your ship going much faster than the default, with a max speed of 35.

Interceptor jets: Medium acceleration, but with the max speed of 104, they have a afterburner function which will let you burst up to top speed, however they are power hungry.

So far it is just a client side mod, replacing the default engine. If i make a couple more I may try and add them in as extra thruster blocks. but as of now, I don't have the slightest clue on how to go about doing that. I'm sure there are discussions about adding blocks, I will utilize the search function and report back.

Just change pat to model to yours model, an insert it ingame as any other custom block; this should work, I made door variation that is shifted to one side of the block that way.

I don't know what file type the games textures use, but you can always try to use The GIMP to create textures. It's free, and has a big community constantly creating tools to allow you to edit files of all types.

I'm going to keep working on the models and textures, get at least two finished before making them into different blocks.... speaking of more thrusters....

new model for the large thruster! Here are a couple more angles, and wire frames.

After looking at more models already in game, like the cockpit, grav gen, an gyro, I thought around 3000 tris was a reasonable goal to get a good amount of detail for an object this size. I'm a little above my set goal, but that will be easy to trim down.

PS:keep in mind all the textures are just place holders until I get my photoshop going.(they are just some textures already in-game)
PPS:My computer is lame, I run the game on the lowest available setting, so the shadows might also seem rather lame.

these look awesome!!!! I always hope they change the form to 2x2 instead of 2x3, since the existing form is such a waste of precious space :)
and I would like to see bigger engines! BIGGER
    same for big ships engines!

    small thruster 1x1x2
    big thruster 2x2x4
    giant thruster! 3x3x6

How did you get custom thrusters have glow? I just finished mine, and they are not glowing, but otherwise fully functional.
