Anyone know of a good mod to enable instant depressurization death.
opening helmet in the vast vacuum of space should lead to an instant dead condition..
also would give more meaning to a real functioning air lock system.

You might think so, but the reality may be different...

In the game it takes ~ 26 seconds to die, which is probably reasonable for general gameplay.

I've never seen a mod for this, and a cursory search of the Steam workshop found nothing, so as an exercise I just went ahead and created one. (It took all of five minutes excluding the time searching for a suitable image for the thumbnail)

Yeah, you won't instantly die (or freeze) in the vacuum of space. The human body is capable of surviving total exposure for a short period.

There were numerous tests on animals in the dawn of the space age... and even a human exposed to a total vacuum during a suit malfunction in controlled conditions. About 15 seconds of usable consciousness and up to 2 minutes without permanent damage if you exhale completely. Never trust the movies.... ESPECIALLY the ones "based" on a true story.

You won't instantly die if you fall off a mountain but it is going to happen. Instantly or 2 minutes doesn't change the end result.

If you fall from mountain but hit the steep slope with bushes, you might survive - several people already did. Chance is quite low, but it is there.

If you are just space-walking without suit from one failing ship to other nearby, those 10-15 seconds might be enough to survive.
And if there are people in the other ship going to rescue, then you have those 2 minutes you spend unconscious - but you survive. (Although I would not implement this part, in-game unconscious == dead).

@May Rears That really depends on how you land, now doesn't it? If you land squarely on your melon, I'm sure death would be instantaneous... People have also fallen five miles out of airplanes hit the ground and survived... But regardless, the OP was talking about a human in a vacuum becoming an instant fatality... That's not how it works, unless you want to mod for counter-realism... Which you know... is the prerogative of the user in question.
