    @Malware
    Cool, maybe keen will do something about it then artificial mass has only been available for four years.

    @Forcedminer There's nothing wrong with the artificial mass. The problem is when they're on the same grid so you get the troll drive effect. That's not what they were intended for. They were meant to have gravgens on the station and mass block on the vehicles (or projectiles). And they won't do anything about it now. But I know some of them dislike the gravdrive as much as I do ;)

    Having something so wildly unbalanced limits creativity, not the other way around. Strangly removing that option or nerfing it will likely improve the situation.

    When there is one thing so far out of the rest of the games power level anything else becomes sub-optimal and anyone trying to be creative just gets crushed. A class building PvP game might end up with a meta of only very few viable builds, whereas in SE if you're not building a giant gravity drive propelled armor brick you're doing it wrong and will get stomped. So while you might be able to do less, with balance more things become viable.

    Needs to be a reaction force on the generator and then it'll be perfectly ok. Troll drives slain, but intended uses remain unaffected.

    @Dax23333 Exactly. Leave it possible to mod back in and those who loves the gravdrive can still keep it - while it will be easy for server owners to decide whether or not they want to support it.

    It's not going to kill your rover at all, as far as I am concerned (unless the artificial gravity generator and a-mass block is on the same rover). The idea of the "if" clause check only affects blocks that belong to the same grid, and since the rover with an A-mass is a separate grid, the "if" clause wouldn't hurt it as it wouldn't be "checked".

    It only affects troll drives afaik. It doesn't affect things like a detached rail gun pellet (as long as it is detached from the gun, which would enhance stability actually), doesn't affect things like accelerator tubes, etc etc, as long as they are no longer on the same grid.

    Correct. Remove it and there's nothing to balance. The artificial mass was created to compensate for the fact that gravity generator only worked on characters and loose voxels. It's weird, but wheels were in the game before gravity, or they came out simultaneously. You needed artificial mass if you wanted to have wheeled vehicles in your base. That's really all they're good for under normal use. The unintended uses are as projectiles for gravity guns and mass for gravity drive. There can be no "balancing" of these uses. There are servers galore out there that have instituted just about every trick mentioned here, and some not mentioned here, as attempts to remove gravity drive advantage. Anything that actually worked would be a standard server feature by now. My solution of severely nerfing the GGs field would not stop people from making gravity drives. Only the elimination of the artificial mass removes the artificial advantage. You can either play on a server where troll drives are a thing so deal with it, or you can play on a server where the troll drive cannot exist.

    I would go as far as to say that If the server has artificial mass available, then gravity drive is "balanced" because everyone logged on can make one, and anyone can have one that is as powerful as the next guy's if they put in the same amount of work. Therefore, no one should complain if their "opponent" chose to make and use one and you didn't. Every attempt to "balance" sounds good and even looks good written down but the kind of people that use troll drives are the very people that will figure out how to get around your contrived limitations, and that will make them even more OP.

    Occam's Razor would work great here.
