In one of my empty worlds (No asteroids for resources), I use this small capture/towing boat. It has a frontal heavy armour shield to endure some extended punishment, and even if the shield is wrecked, it's frontal shell is also made in heavy armour to ensure that it's not going to be torn to pieces.

It's cheap, easy to repair and maintain and also won't be much of a loss if a raid on a cargo ship goes wrong and it ends up a floating wreck. Easy to reproduce with minimal resources.

Also, it has it's own dock in the away station that I've built where I dump all the cargo ships that I capture for salvaging when I need more materials.

    Edit: Fixed some errors, derp.

The CAPTURE RAPTURE , the machine I have used in survival for all salvage operations of trap and recover.
Very powerfull, can tow the military vessels back with ease and grind them into bits on the grinding pad, [in pics also] it is a small big ship configuration.
Even has internal defences to stop those firefly salvage crews from stealin your shat !
Has an external rocket launcher above cockpit.
    Is powered by large reactor.
    Practical and simple design.

Thanks. i still haven't finished developing all types of ammo I want there. But I can screenshot some of the ready designs. Includes a shot, that brakes in 4 HA needles under defensive fire or on hit (best against light armour, can take 1/3 of mining hauler on hit), armour penetration SABOT shot (used here) and now I am building AP camore shot, but I am not sure it will work. With the new update, I will be able to build them way faster and automatically. Need to optimize the reloading process too. I am somewhat limited in size and mass of the shot (shot of 100 tons are heavy for holding mechanisms).

I would post a picture of my hijacker-ship, but I just crashed it into a mining carriage. . .

Probably the ugliest ship possible - 4x5 wall of heavy armor. Features include: a gravity powered stone thrower, rocket launcher to take the gatlin guns, 6 thrusters in the back for fast catchup to the AI ship and power to drag it back to base, 4 widely spaced landing gear to grab the AI ship. I load up about 150,000 kg of stone. So far I have no problem taking out something like the Mil. Escort. I am waiting to try this on something like the Mil. Trans.

When I'm by myself I just use a small combat fighter to deal with the turrets, I built a model I regularly use in creative and modified it with heavy armor in vital areas and Chaff pods that are highly effective at distracting the turrets so I can take them out.

I used the jetpack for the longest time, but decided i needed a more efficient method of grinding ships into scrap, so i started building a mobile grinding array.

1466 grinders later, i was watching Space Engineers, the slideshow. So... I've reduced the grinder count so something like 500-600 grinders, in a funnel shape, all backed by conveyors, tubes, heavy armor (just incase accidental) and refineries.

So, ladies and gentlemen, I present the Jormungand.
This was the original 1466 grinder array, consuming a modified military transport (additional thrusters because so slow!)

So, this got modified. The griners were reduced, some streamlining.... it's still WIP
    [IMG]
Refining/assembly/dissembly area (one of two.) they connect to numerous large cargo containers.

You may say, this might be a little over done (or maybe not... :D ) but, this also doubles as a mining logistics ship, the stern contains a hangar, which launches numerous smaller mining craft, which swarm large asteroids while this parks below... with it's propulsion, it's capable of chasing any ship down, consuming, and processing everything within a matter of minutes. I like this thing.

Still WIP, I've put it on the backburner for now, as it's only half the size I intend it to become... 500m long, nearly 600million KG currently

Jetpack was fun :D I haven't used it since the turret patch, though. we'll see how that works out.

I'm assuming this was not built in survival?

Started in survival, the original shape etc was made that way, I've since doubled it's size in creative. ( that middle picture is the doubled size. It was about 50x300 blocks in survival.)

Well if you used the control panel you would... If you use the Weapon Selection (Toolbar) Method you don't...
