    Dear community, dear developers.

I would like to introduce to you today is something that is highly sought
after and in every large ship and above all, in each station should be available.

The talk is of hangar doors.

Hangar doors are so far difficult to achieve in Space Engineers. So far you need for this
complicated mechanics, and if you're unlucky if it breaks, which can sometimes destroy the work of hours.

Here I will attempt to remedy the situation.

In movies like Star Wars, or Star Trek, it is already shown us.
What I mean are energy barriers, energy gates, or whatever you want to call it.

These are energy fields that keep the air in the space ship or station back,
    but let ships through.

Here nice to see in the background: (Star Wars)

    Or here: (Star Trek)

As the current doors, you can turn in on and off
(ON = ship can fly /// OFF = Ship can not fly)

Here are some pictures that show my design.

    The intermediate piece:

    The end piece:

    The corner piece:

In the appendix now even the three objects as they might appear times. (For hobbyists ^ ^)

    The construction:
    The construction is very simple.
It simply uses the three sections to build a frame.
    The Great is unlimited.

    Pros and Cons:
    Pro:
    - Requires little space.
    - Looks cool.
    - Fits to the Space Engineers universe.
    - Size can be individually adjusted.

    Con:
    - Consumes permanent energy.

    Thank you for your patience.

If you like my suggestion, I would be very happy
the Energy Gate allowed to soon welcome in the game.

    Sincerely yours
    HyperStorm

Or, you know... You could just use a hangar door. It actually costs materials to build, requires knowledge, skill and is backed by the science that a big movable wall of steel keeps things out, even when the power fails.
The only realistic representation of your "Force Field" because that's what it is, is a Plasma Window. Which is to keep gases from leaking out, gases which we don't have in this game. In fact, the purpose of the force fields you've suggested is to keep air inside a hangar, not to keep ships out.

Also, This has been suggested many times before, please use the search function in future.

    EDIT: Ninja'd

I have searched it too, but that post is posted 31/10/13.
I also think that my suggestion is a little more detail and is more accurate.

Doesn't matter, necro'ing old suggestion threads with new fresh support is not illegal and is preferred due to cluttering.
The devs check the suggestions every now and then, they'll see a new post whether it's a new thread or a new post on an old thread, and they'll judge it the same. No point adding more titles to sift through.

EDIT: Oh Vermillion, you'll have to be quicker than that :p

Here it is not so much to keep gases in the ship or the station.

I am talking primarily about the functionality.

Hangar doors that are operated with engines unnecessarily complicated to operate
and need lots of space. Besides these, it can happen that they go when turning on. It is currently impossible hangar doors completely close because almost always other blocks are damaged.

All in all I see in the current situation, only disadvantages.

EDIT: I think, you dant must use this technologie.
If you like to build real hangar doors, you can do that ^^
And who want, uses the Energy-Gate.

Just because it's something new, that does not mean you have to use it too. :)

Explain what the actual point is...

Keeping the "air" in a ship doesn't matter and having something that allows things through it without allowing the "air" through it just seems like an aesthetic.

You need to think of a function that a hangar door like this would do. I.e. Be able to be turned on and off to allow things to go through it when it is off and turn it on to make a force field that is like a solid block to stop anything entering the hangar.

ship hull + single rotor + huge plate = spinny hangar door

ship hull + single rotor + "hinge" out of armor blocks + huge plate = openy hangar door

double them for 2-part hangar doors

    also

some of them really dont take up that much space and are simple - especially the "drawbridge" door

it is considered common courtesy and part of a internet forum protocol to look for older threads before making a new one
    its also common sense

there are cases where just making a new thread is perfectly justified, there are cases where it is not - this is one of these

your understanding is not required, your compliance is

We should end the it now.
Yes, there are already other threads, but if you all wanted to complain about double posts, would have much to do. Point.

If it is right, we should get to the actual topic of this thread. Thank you.

Nah, I'm enjoying stalling until this thread is locked. I'm also using it to try and actually get you to see the problem.
You are cluttering the suggestions forum with something that has already been suggested. This doesn't create a 'strength in numbers' benefit, and the devs would see if you posted it on another thread. Thus there are no benefits.
But there are drawbacks. More titles for the devs to sift through, making it harder to find the suggestions they might want to include.
A new thread, with a new title, and a new URL, takes a bigger toll on the forum's storage than posting on an existing thread.

    It can also significantly exaggerate.
    Tells you what I think?

You belong to the genus Hater ...
You hatest easily without even wasting all that you see it a second thought.

No one, absolutely no one is forcing you to post here, other than to ideas are to be used or even new items in the game.

The main thing you'll get your attention ...

The fit is not what I'm doing? Duly noted, evaluated and found to not care.

Thank you and see again. (not) * ignore *

I'm a hater? Really? No, I just have a respect for the way things are run here.
I don't hate your idea, though I don't think it serves any purpose and is purely aesthetic. However the devs have stated that there are no decorative assets in this game and everything serves a purpose.

There are actually newer threads that discuss this - it's not like there was just one thread way back when. Saw one about 'hard light' technology like last month.

Well, anyway, the problem with these is that the technology is only theoretical at best. Whichever way you try to accomplish the atmosphere shield, through cold plasma, through hard light, etc. you get the same problem. It dissipates when something touches it and breaks the magnetic seal. So you fly a ship through such a barrier, if one could even be produced, (modern experiments are inconclusive if it can even be made, tests are mere millimeters or centimeters across) and your light shield sprays out into space.

Gravity generators and such were implemented because the devs felt there was no good realistic alternative. But in this case, there is a perfectly good realistic alternative - hangar doors. Once we get rails these will be a lot more effective, easier to build, and look like actual doors rather than the rotor ones we have now.

    Also illegal poll

The hard light thread was mine. And it was about a system of creating reactive armour plating the can be used with skill in combat. The other potential use was for a way in which you could generate a hard light shield across a hangar, sealing it from entrance or exit.
What is being suggested here is more like a room-temperature plasma window (Cold plasma is not cold). Also plasma windows are not theoretical, they exist. And objects can travel through them.

    I understand you Wombats.

It is true that this technology is not really real. At least it does not fit so well into our time.
In our time there but is gesetllte space no gravity generators, huge spaceships, or even as in the game.
Much of this game is not very realistically or does not fit into our time.
But would all then judge, there would be no future, if you know what I mean.

In any case, thank you in advance, for this first post really fits the theme :)

I think it's quite difficult to seperate what is realistic and what is unrealistic in 2077 because it's 63 years away. 63 years ago we sent the first animal into space and today we have more than 10.000 Satellites and a space Station. 63 years ago WW2 was just over. the Speed of our Research and Technology is exponetially.
And yes i know this is Alpha.
i would like to see this maybe in a mod or sth. like that

The technology is based on "Modern-day NASA technology extrapolated 60 years into the future." Not what could be invented, because that's like 30 years ago everyone thinking we'd have flying cars by 2000.

The actual topic of this thread has been discussed many times before.

Magic laser shield walls are completely unrealistic for what you want to do.

I'd much rather we be able to click and drag Door blocks to make giant doors.
That way, you can build hangar doors, bomb bays, etc without having to inject some magic sci-fi nonsense loosely based on real world tech that can't even do what you want it to do.

Leon, u call it magic, i call it science :)

No one of us knows what is in 60 or 70 years.
The theory of warp drive, for example, stands today. Theoretically we lack only at the energy source.

Is an energy barrier so unrealistic?

200 years ago, today's technology would have been the work of the devil, now it is normal. :)

The theory of a warp drive is only stopped by a lack of energy?

Try a lack of the exotic matter.

Try the unsurvivable conditions of the warp bubble due to Hawking Radiation.

Try the destruction of everything in front of the warp bubble at collapse.

Warp is being held back by far more than just energy, which is actually not as limiting as one imagines.

That was just an example, not always take everything as accurately ...

I would rather see a door system implemented where doors "link" with one another to form bigger doors. If I place two doors on top of each other it will link and form a single tall door. If I have 4 doors in a square shape those will link and make a square door, similar to the ones on the death star. If I had doors in a 5x5 grid they will become a large hanger door. It would keep getting bigger so you could customize the shape all you want.
    Just my two cents.
