I have zero issues with docked small ships on my large ships. And I build a lot of them... I've had tiny small ships and rather larger small ships docked to the same Large ship with no issues when moving.

    A few tricks...

    1. Ensure your small ship gear is locked to the deck.
    2. Power down the small ships (gear will remain locked to the deck even with power off).
    3. Use heavy armor where you are going to dock your ships (but standard armor works fine)
    4. Add more gyros and thrusters to your large ship if it has trouble staying on course (dips or "pulls" because of the docked ships).

If you are in a multiplayer game and you are not the pilot of the ship, you will see strange things happen when large ships are moving. You might even die. Best advice here is to either get in a cockpit (conected to the large ship that is moving) or escort it using your jetpack or small ship...

Another effective solution is to build large landing gear and use them as a platform, instead of just relying on the platform to hold the ship, put one or two landing gear on the ship itself. This way you can land, lock the gear on your ship and only have to worry about engaging the whole platform when you move your mothership. You can also be sure that your small ships won't move out of the landing platform's range. Oh, and it's cheaper resource wise to use large landing gear than heavy armor.
