The new layout is very annoying to use.

    - Many forums hidden within some not-really fitting parent forum
    - Marking a forum as read ("Mark forums read" button) marks all sub forums as read, this is extremely annoying in Modding and General sections

Please switch back to the old layout, it was much easier to use :(

The changes that recently happened were not my decision but rather straight from KSH HQ, i will forward however that some people were not very pleased with the changes.

The changes were made to de-clutter and reduce the main forums page. The idea was to move all discussions under general discussions. If there is a functionality problem we can make a discussions category and place all discussion forums, including general discussions, under that category. Agree or disagree with this post and I'll check it at the end of today

The old layout was very convenient because no matter what forum was of interest, it was immediately visible if there is something new or not :\

If you go for categories please try to make them to be "non-postable", otherwise it does not matter if discussions are in General or in their own category. And subforums should be visible somehow without having to open their parent category. I would still advocate for the "old" layout, to be honest ;)

Right now we have idiocies like this:
Space Engineers -> Modding and Programming -> Questions and Suggestions
Space Engineers -> Modding and Programming -> Ingame programming -> Questions and Suggestions

This is confusing and not a good idea :\

I didn't make that idiocy. It was like that. I just dumped it into Modding and Programming

I know, I'm not accusing you :) Sorry if that was not clear enough :) Such things are normal for forums which grow over time :)

It wasn't cluttered using that neat collapse button for the categories. I collapsed all categories except those I'd check regularly, mainly, the SE one, and ocasionally check the ME one. That way, the forum wasn't cluttered at all and I could still do a quick check, specially the sections with less movement like the Source Code section. I can understand that if people don't use said feature, there will appear to be a ton of stuff in the main page, but turning almost all sections invisible (by "hiding" them inside regular sections) was not a good solution. The way I use the forums, right now I see only 4 sections. Everything else is hidden away from me, either collapsed under a category, or accesible only by entering one of the 4 sections I can see.

I've hit "agree" because I think I understand your proposal, but maybe you could present a bit of a more detailed explanation and somehow make everyone aware of this? It looks like not many people know that we can suggest different approaches to this issue. I'd post it in the general section, but I don't like to spam threads with just a link as a pointer of sorts unless I was a mod (which I'm not).

Ok, the "mark as read" situation that I created should now be fixed. There are some older sub-sub-forums that are like that but I didn't create that problem and people have been living with it happily so I'm leaving it.

Thank you for the Discussion section with the sub forums in it!

Maybe it would be a good idea not to mix up ingame programming in modding. The modding forum has a lot of sub forums for modding and one for ingame programming, while ingame programming contains even more sub forums for ingame programming. SOmehow seperating that stuff would be helpful. Maybe move everything for Modding down one level to have a result like this:
    Modding & Programming -> Modding -> ...
    Modding & Programming -> Ingame programming -> ...
Modding & Programming -> Source code

Instead of this confusing conglomeration which mixed modding forums with other forums which contain even more sub forums in the case of Ingame programming.
Modding & Programming -> Modding (which is only for modding)
Modding & Programming -> Guides & Tools(which is only for modding)
Modding & Programming -> Ingame programming
Modding & Programming -> Modding API (which is only for modding)
Modding & Programming -> Questions & suggestions (which is only for modding)
Modding & Programming -> Released and WIP mods (which is only for modding)
Modding & Programming -> Source code

Might that be an idea? Pretty please :)

PS: I never even expected any kind of reply from my experiences with other forums. Very impressed and happy ^^

It's not like i'm gonna stop using the forums, you know, but I don't like the changes either, I allways prefer to have the maximum possibilities available at one screen with the lesser mouse clicks. IMO one layer of subforums is ok, two clicks, more layers are too much, 3, 4 or 5 clicks to change between subforums are too much.

Less mouse clicks is allways profit. There are too much clicks now if you want to go from one subforum to another subforum, f.i. from programming/guides to general/community creations, even using the top menu there are more clicks than before.

I don't disagree. It's a work in progress. I'll try to move up some of the deeper nodes. After this, I'll leave you in the care of our very capable administrator.

The modding subforums were done like that ages ago. I thought it was a nice idea then, but think it's a mistake now.
I've found the deeper a topic is nested, the less visibility it gets.

All it will do is keep people from reading the forums. Search helps, but isn't that good.

TBH, I don't know anything about 'unread' indicators. It's all a mess. I just look from top-down to see recent topics. With nested forums I won't be doing that anymore.

Thank you! The latest changes reduced the layers and made it really usable in my opinion :)

For me right now it look like someone throw all of discussions in one bag (feeling I am getting).

"Questions and Suggestions" change for now to "Modding Questions and Suggestions"?
