    Hello, Engineers!

We are fully dedicated to prepare next major release focused on GPU optimizations, loading times optimizations and general performance optimizations at all. Unfortunately we were not able prepare video for this week (greetings to Joel to London! :) ), but we hope you appreciate this week fixes, which some of them are really satisfying.

Main issues fixed in this update are pistons exploding while being placed in survival and also wheels killing people while being placed in survival as well. We also managed to fix long time hunted wrong block placement issue.

    Fixes:
    - fixed block placement issue
    - fixed crash when clicking on Loaded in Backup save menu
    - fixed crash when voxel was not yet loaded properly and character was moving
    - fixed crash with parallelization when copying grids
    - fixed rare crash that occured when joining a Star System dedicated server
    - fixed piston head spawning behind pistons construction model, on survival, causing it to clang
    - fixed LCD panels swapping their display texts when viewing them again
    - fixed wheels killing players when placed in survival
    - fixed wheel suspensions will not clang in outer space when placed in creative mode
    - fixed mistake in player menu where the name tag and faction tag where swapped

    Cool and good Job.
I know keen have so much work and there are so many things to do but remember please, work to fix landing gears, merge blocks and connectors. These are working badly as in the old multiplayer times

Any ETA on the inventory de-sync fix? I've heard lots of people having this issue and it is super frustrating, requiring constant reconnects to servers.

Yea it really kills the Immersion on MP -- I can put up with avoiding wheels, rotors and pistons in MP --- there is a lot you can do without them.
Also the disapearing voxels kills Immersion too..... infact anything that requires reconnect to servers. Also is causes join lag for people on the server ....

heyyyy that one actually stopped me many times trying to build large grid wheels.
    --- Automerge ---
oh well at least attempting to build a large grid set of wheels won't instantly kill you.....since you can just about place it and it would usually instantly kill you.
and since as hard as the wheels are to use making a large heavy rover seems to have better control.

So, next major update is going to be all about GPU optimization and loading. That's really great, but I would like to know when we can expect update focusing onto suspension wheels. I know not everyone are into wheels so probably this isn't priority, however couple months ago you've teased us with new wheel behavior... Since that teaser I'm holding breath... Not literary, cause I would of been dead by now. So my question is when we can expect that update, is it going to ruin all builds based on wheels, should I stop developing new, cool wheeled vehicles? That's all for now... If it comes to this week update all I can say is that I really appreciate all your work put into optimizations! My rig is rather weak so all sort of optimizations are more than welcome.

I'm pretty sure the short answer to your question is, "Never." Wheel suspension problems are shared with pistons, rotors, and anything else that attempts to have separate grids move together in a constrained fashion. It's a tall order. In a game that never envisioned multiplayer it's a monumental task. So far it seems any solution that works breaks everything else.

They will be fixed, though. They HAVE to. There's no game without these things.

According to the live stream just now, wheels are not even in the next major update.

Having to go from moving on foot to flying machines in survival is just bloody stupid. I would rather had highly simplified wheels without all the options that just worked if the current wheels are to difficult to fix right now.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if wheels don't get an update till the new wheel system drops, whenever that is. I know I wouldn't bother fixing something if I was going to replace it comparatively soon.

I would like to see Keen explore the idea of doing away with separate grids for wheels. Let the wheel visibly remain, and still take damage from explosions/bullets, but get rid of its collision and have that space occupied by a volume owned by the suspension block that emulates collision, friction, damping, etc... Of course, when the wheel needs to fly off into the sunset it can spawn and inherit physics from this volume. As a bonus, wheels would not be targeted by turrets (which would probably target the suspension, resulting in more sunset-bound wheels overall).

Something like that would justify ending my ~1 year hiatus from SE.

there was a teaser of works looking pretty slick back in april.
there was also a teaser of wind power, some hydrogen combustion engine that made many an engineer lose their reality check and parachutes.

i just find it a bit funny how wheels functioned pretty well pre-fancy block update....like you could turn well going slow and going fast you could depend on gyroscopic turning.
i mean wheels back then were awesome drifting across ice lakes with this playing sort of awesome.

and they've been left in this state for quite some time. :/
oh well at least since they got some love this time around means they haven't been completely forgotten.

^This. So much this. The idea of wheels as a separate physics object is fun in theory, but it is woefully inadequate in terms of actual playability. It just doesn't work well. Same with all the moving blocks.

Actually, @I23I7, that would be my question, and that of a lot of other players as well. I know it likely wouldn't happen before SE gets out of Beta, but Marek has said they intend to update SE after "release." Is it possible that at some point, Keen could dumb down some of the mechanics of the moving blocks so their behavior is more realistic? Because the physics-based system for wheels right now results in lots of Clang, which is less realistic than what you get in your average shooter.

    My 2¢.

Never isn't answer.. I'm sure they will do it, the only question is when? I don't know if you've seen teaser, it wasn't easter teaser so there is no reason to consider it as joke. Shame MP isn't working like it should supposed to but if it comes to SP, pistons and rotors work just fine. Wheels work like they used to, althou you can't adjust suspension height for some reason. Shame but I think they are not fixing it cause they are working on new wheel system right now. I would like to hear an answer from developers rather than speculating about it.

Okay, I may sound ignorant, I thought wheel issues were mainly MP, but from what I understand, wheels are unplayable period.

Yet I somehow just drove 60 km over very varied terrain, and I had a lot of fun. Am I missing something here? Or am I just that tolerant?

So where is this block placement bug fix, seemed to be working fine to me, then fix drops today, and oh there the bug is, created by the latest update, again.

The last time I played with a wheeled vehicle the wheels refused to move on the suspension no matter what settings were used. This wouldn't be too much of a problem if they were at the bottom of the travel but they were near the top so the tiniest amount of rough terrain meant I grounded.
