Hello, Engineers! We are getting extremely close to the next major release with the team reviewing the last few remaining details before we can let it loose on the community. We truly appreciate your patience with us as we prepare this update as we really want it to blow your minds!

This week's update contains sorting options for the blueprints screen and a selection of fixes for issues reported by players. These issues now resolved include a crash when spawning on dedicated servers, strange behavior when shooting a rifle on a moving grid and missing mountpoints on advanced rotor blocks.

    jenskhs_preview.jpgeg

Important note for modders and scripters!
The API overhaul is nearly done, and we think you'll be excited by all the changes! Some modders were given a preview and preliminary feedback was very encouraging. However, some changes will break existing scripts! Rexxar has posted a comprehensive list of all API changes coming in the next major update, including breaking changes, and some tips on how to get your mods and scripts ready for the new API. Check out the forum post here: https://forum.keenswh.com/threads/7398158

Here's to hoping for something big! What is API? For us computer illiterate peoples? Hmm I don't recognize that component.

API stands for "application programming interface". It's for modders and scripters - as it says. It's what makes it possible for us to communicate with the game.

It's short for Application Programming Interface. Think of an Application (Space Engineers) as a closed box. You want to change/interact with stuff in the application (mod Space Engineers), you either gotta rip the box open, which is dangerous, especially when other people want to rip open the box, too. OR you use an Interface (say, the lid of the box), which lets you fiddle with the contents of the box in a controlled way, so nobody has to rip open the box.
The Programming part just means that its for programmers :p if you just said Application Interface, you would cover all sorts of methods of interfacing with space engineers. For example using your mouse and keyboard and screen to play it.

The upside of an API is, everything is nice and tidy and multiple people can access the box this way without it falling apart, the downside is that you can't access everything in the box, because you only see the parts that are visible from the part where you removed the lid. Enhancing the API basically means making more stuff visible from the lid side. And, you know. Hiding stuff that shouldn't be visible for security reasons and the likes.

Great work Keen, make sure you don't realise the next major too early but that you deliver a great update! Too many people forget how hard it is to develop a game.

So... gratuitous blood splatter as opposed to sparks? Or is it a rainbow now like a mature content filter on Gears of War?

Side note - I don't want to hear the sound a creature makes as it is hit with a rotary grinder....

Fun fact, the estimated cost of saving Matt Damon across his Hollywood rolls is estimated to be over 900 Billion. https://time.com/4162254/cost-of-rescuing-matt-damon/

I really cant wait for the major update!

sadly i kind of know how some people will react:

"omygosh keen you destroyed muh gaem becuz scripts and mods crashing muh Dee Ess, this is phail andwhatsthatkindamagigthatiknownotof?"

you can easily translate these as:

"I didnt read the api changes warnings weeks prior and even the week before, my mods stopped working, i blame keen for it despite the ones that made the mod didnt do the changes required, or me for that part"

i ve learnt that prior to a massive change, i should disable my mods beforehand, boy am i glad that i tend to stick with vanilla blocks whenever possible.

thanks for the update and heres hoping the new teased blocks gets onto the major update, itl make a nice birthday present as it will be next thursday :)

The constant hyping of the next major update is starting to sound like you have been secretly working on features and content in scale of what planets were, just bigger. And when it's not even about the survival revamp but better, you are seriously giving out the impression that it will be something like compund blocks, NPCs, water and ladders combined. Can't wait for those, since before this secrecy and hype for the next major update, I wasn't expecting any of those, but now you have made my imagination run wild.

Can you not just add a search box, since that has been a requested feature for over a year and has a good 5k votes....

Sorting is something but searching is the QoL thing I have been looking for.. Adding to my 4300+hours in SE. THANKS KEEN FOR YOUR WORK AND INPUT.
    --- Automerge ---
Maybe a hint of what's to come.... Would help us release some stress about the 2months of waiting.

Blueprint sorting yay! It's not blueprint folders but I'll take it. And from what I can tell, the modapi changes wont break any of my scripts. Also grid groups sounds great, I was looking for a way to do just that.

Could we also get something similar sorting for pb scripts? I have to scroll forever to get to Script_0 when creating from editor. Then I also have to remember was it Script_0 or Script_1? Just throwing it out there cause why not, but couldn't the list select the newly created script automatically for renaming etc? I'd also like to see a rename button in the blueprint screen similar to the pb script screen so you don't have to open a new window to rename the blueprint.

Kinda what i am thinking too.
Seems like either it is not just the survival revamp or revamp will be jacked af.

Tbh i would not be surprised to see surprise ladders at this point

That may very well be, but they are also merely feeding the expectation beast they helped to create: They now feel the need to apologize when minor updates are truly minor. Honestly, I've enjoyed several weeks of relatively stable game play, and I'll probably roll back to this version until the "anniversary update" gets a few weeks of patching. That's no dis on Keen, btw, just the nature of early access (and PC gaming in general, these days).
