    Hello, Engineers!
It’s time for another exciting update for Space Engineers. The most obvious change is the fact that with this release we are bringing both free and premium content to the game. This gives you the opportunity to enjoy new things, but also the chance to support the further development of Space Engineers, if you are willing to do so.

All players will get new functional cockpit LCDs with customizable screens, replay tool, which can be used for setting up various animated scenes, brand new random Encounters, Steam trading cards, badges and backgrounds, and all bug fixes, optimizations, and smaller improvements for free.

Players who already own the Deluxe Edition will also get three new music tracks based on the music from our trailers.

For players who wish to support further development of Space Engineers, we have created a bulk of Decorative Blocks, which you can use for various decorations on your spaceships, vehicles and space stations. The price is $3.99 USD, or your regional Steam equivalent. You can purchase the Decorative Pack here.
If you decide not to purchase the Decorative Pack, but you want to play with friends or other players who did buy the Decorative Pack, you will still be able to join a multiplayer game or server with them and enjoy the game. In this case, you will be able to view these new blocks, but you won’t be able to build or interact with them.

Note to modders: When modding the decorative blocks, copy the current settings and then do the change on top of that. The mod will also include the DLC tag:
    <DLC>DecorativeBlocks</DLC>

    FAQ

Q: Are all future updates going to be paid?
    A:
Actually, even this update isn’t paid. The major part of this update (LCD screens, Replay Tool, new music tracks, smaller improvements) is free for everyone. Only the smaller and not mandatory part is paid - Decorative Pack.

Q: Aren’t you going to split the community - people who don’t own the Decorative Pack won’t be able to play with people who own it?
    A:
The way we designed this is that even people who don’t purchase the Decorative Pack can play on servers with people who own the Decorative Pack. Players who don’t own the Decorative Pack won’t be able to build with these new blocks, nor interact with them, but they will be able to view them in-game.

Q: Where is all this money going?
    A:
To support future development of Space Engineers and other leading-edge projects we plan to work on at Keen Software House. Players kept asking us for something they could buy to support the development of Space Engineers, and the Decorative Pack is a great option for them.

Q: When did you start working on Decorative Pack?
    A:
Right after Space Engineers left early access and all hot issues were resolved. Most of the work was done by the Art team, the rest of the developers is working on other long-term updates.

Q: Why haven’t you increased the price of Space Engineers and include the Decorative Pack in it, or why it’s not part of the Deluxe Edition?
    A:
We want more people to play Space Engineers, which means we must lower the barrier of entry. When the Space Engineers community grows, everyone benefits from this - more content on Workshop, more mods, more new ideas, more people to play with. This means that all non-mandatory features should be optional, so only those who really want them can pay for them. That’s why we decreased the price of Space Engineers, and made the Decorative Pack an optional purchase.

Q: We asked you for volumetric water, compound blocks, new goals, more optimizations, etc, and instead you are giving us a toilet block?
    A:
Hehe, if you put it this way, it sounds kind of funny. :) But the reality is that decorative blocks are low-hanging fruit, not a bottleneck towards those other mentioned future features. Additionally, the decorative pack can bring added profit and make the mentioned things happen.

So you add new crap, but wont fix the issues with people not being able to join servers and are constantly connecting/disconnecting because of it, which causes lag, which causes more and more people not to want to play the game. You should have AT LEAST made it so that a player who doesn't own the DLC, just can't BUILD them. Locking interactions with a block behind a paywall is the way you kill a game. #KeenLogic

You DO realize that you also made block placement distance SO FAR AWAY from the player, that it's IMPOSSIBLE to see the orientation you're trying to place something in when you're going to build it right?

That is a great addition. Much appreciated.
And when I heard of "fully customizable LCD screens" I admit I thought first the "live camera feed" (some older, disfunct mod) is coming to vanilla SpaceEngineers...
Maybe an interesting idea for the next time free content is being considered. Meantime: thanks a lot for this.

Yes, there are issues with the game, but in the name of the creators and ship builders, thanks a lot for the new decorative blocks Keen!

After 5+ Years of building (I paid 15 bucks back in 2013), I would gladly pay for this DLC to get some new additions!

I don't see how this can be true if the player can't use the new cockpit. Sorry but this isn't a decorative pack only right now.. It's ok that the player can't construct them, but we should be able to use them and repair them like normal once they are built by a "Premium" player...

EDIT <removed question already answered in the FAQ>

Also, doors are now ever so slightly broken it seems but nothing game breaking - the lights no longer turn red when they're powered off. I have an 'airlock' script that does it automatically - lights used to go red on the powered down door, they don't any more.

when are you going to fix groups being destroyed if someone leaves your mp server without you shutting the whole thing down while everyone is there, if someone leaves before you shut down the server it automaticlly destroys all groups its a major pain

Loving the lcd and cockpit update, as well as the bug fixes.

Also totally on board with cosmetic blocks as a DLC (they look awesome by the way), but if the cockpit works as mentioned for people who don't own the DLC, it's sort of an issue imo.

I could, owning the DLC, build a ship in MP, using the DLC cockpit, resulting in anyone without the DLC not being able to fly it.

Also, how are the cosmetic items handled in regards to workshop blueprints/worlds?
Would i be unable to load these if they contain DLC items? or would i be able to add the cosmetic items, without owning DLC, by giving a buddy a workshop copy of my world, have him place the items and then get then getting the world back?

*Sigh* My brand-new ship now looks a mob of angry teenagers scratched it with keychains all day long. For the love of clang, please stop already with the dirt/scratchiness!

Otherwise: DECORATIVE BLOCKS! Excuse me, I gotta spend the next few years refitting everything!

    @Slywolf117
You DO know that you can change the block placement distance with STRG+MW ? Has been like that for years.

    What are you on about?

    DLC is not "evil".

When a big company releases a 60 buck AAA game with DLC at launch that basically locks a bunch of content behind the DLC paywall then yes, that is a shitty greedy business tactic that should not be encouraged.

But I've personally been playing SE for many years now. I have nearly 2000 hours clocked on the game and I will gladly buy this DLC. And if they add more DLC in a couple of months, I'll probably buy that too.
Not only do I get a bunch of new cool blocks, but I am supporting one of my all time favourite games so that they can keep working on it and eventually maybe even add features like oceans! (Keenplsiwantliquidwatersooooobad!)

So enough of this kneejerk "DLC is evil" talk. There is a right way and a wrong way to do DLC, and this is definitely the right way imho.

This is cool. After last cockpit screen teaser did not really expect any changes to LCD-s anymore.
Finally days of ships with LCD-s outside cockpit are over.:tu:

Decorative blocks are bigger surprise than many past updates.
3.29 euros for DLC that actually has content is good price compared to many others.
    Great update Keen!

    Sorry, what?

I've personally gotten about 1200 hours out of SE for my 17€ (actually think it was less when i bought it) which is about the same as i'd pay for a 2 hour 3D movie at the cinema, and i'm pretty sure a lot of others have gotten several hundreds, if not several thousands of hours out of the game thus far...
DLCs are more than justified and give players a chance to support the devs a bit more, if they feel like it.

I wanted to ask about this, too. The production quality of the DLC looks really nice, and given the number of hours I've gotten out of this game I'd be more than happy to throw in another $4 to support development. That being said, I play this game pretty much exclusively in multiplayer, so if my friends can't use a ship I built just because I incorporated a DLC cockpit, I'll have to give the pack a pass for now. It seems fair enough that players who don't own the pack can't build the blocks, but barring them from interacting with them too can create a ton of problems when working cooperatively.

If you need money, there are other ways to get them, and decorative DLC, which is less than other mods, free please note in this regard does not make sense.

    @Sirhan Blixt

I think you misunderstood. The problem is that there is a completely new cockpit in the decorative pack that only the owners of that pack can use. ALL players will have the new functionalities of the old cockpits :)

@Drui Documentation? Cockpits can now pull from internal, non programmable block scripts. Can additional scripts be added via a mod to add to the pull-down menu?

    GReat upgrade!

Ad, personally, a few months ago I bought the hole "Engineers" pack for less than 30 bucks (local money: not Dollars, nor Euros - but it´s about US$ 8.00)), and I am now quite comfortable with the idea of give this small support thru buying this fine DLC (which costs 9 local-bucks in Brazil).

love the look of the new blocks and laughed my rear end off when I saw the toilet block and the astronaut sitting on the toilet in the video. well done guys. Price is also fair as well for what we're getting imo.

My only complaint that I see so far from what's here is that a player that doesn't own the pack should at least be able to repair those blocks and interact with them. If they're going to be able to join servers and such still with people that have those blocks, especially if those blocks are in use, then they should be able to contribute to keeping those blocks functional for their faction. Not being able to place the blocks and build them is perfectly cool and fair since they don't own the pack. Not being able to at least interact with and repair something already in use by your faction can most definitely lead to issues and seems a bit like a slap in the face.

Can a player without the DLC repair the new cockpit using ship tools which are owned by another player who has the DLC?

scenario: a DLC owner builds a ship for his group, using the new shiny cockpit. their NOT-DLC owning friends now CANNOT use the ship.. because they didnt pay for it.
please dont split the playerbase by not allowing the usage of the "decoration" blocks (which the cockpit shouldn't be a part of anyway). and limiting the usage of ships & base equipment IS splitting the players

i'm fine with some decorative blocks being paid, although i'm not sure how you want to stop ppl from just uploading them somewhere for others to use for free...

Yo, is there a way to modify the console file name for headless dedicated clients? This new update changed the console output log to be randomized each startup.

This is a very bad thing if we can't modify the file name through a command line parameter.
