The most epic thing about this landing event was the overshot of the landing zone due to boulders/underneath.. and when touchdown finally occured, only 3 sec of fuel remained... thats why all the guys at mission control were about to turn blue.

... I imagine a buncha OG nerds staring at a Descent thruster fuel guage watching it race to 0%... screaming over the consoles to the moon "dangit Neil- LAND THAT THING!!"

 

I don't suppose that had anything to do with the fact that Neil crashed the practice rig. The computer was supposed to do most of the landing. When he went to manual, that's when the nail-biting an breath-holding began.

People need to understand that when we say a man landed on the Moon, what that should actually mean is that a man did the landing, and that's what scared the engineers the most.
