    The pistol https://www.artstation.com/artwork/gGR6E , rifle https://www.artstation.com/artwork/VD2m8 , and shotgun https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Lg0OK are not part of Space Engineers. They were part of a non-public "VR Shooter" third game experiment by KSH. I assume there was an change of plans or internal error that resulted in them being teased in a SE update video but then forgotten.

    Code:
    namespace Sandbox.Game
    {
    	public enum GameEnum
    	{
    		UNKNOWN_GAME,
    		SE_GAME,
    		ME_GAME,
    		VRS_GAME
    	}
    }

    VRS_GAME is the third game on the same engine (like medieval).

    adding onto that, the new explosion effects are actually in game. they're slightly downgraded depending on graphics settings for optimization reasons but most of the new particle effects made it in with the new textures- (at least as far as I'm aware)

    It would be a nice feature in the game itself though.

    Rocket launcher... because the rifles just can't deal enough damage to make a difference.

    It would be great if weapons had their own internal storage slot that could be accessed when equipped with a second slot under the player's internal inventory storage. This would also help with the mechanics of reloading... but as to HOW the player should reload (dedicated button press or inventory management)... that's another story.

    this mod adds a rather silly looking but devastating hand-held rocket launcher, sniper rifle, assault rifle and pistol.
    just be aware its still fully functional but hasn't had any updates for a while so when you fire the rocket launcher or rifle your characters hands and arms go strechy flying backwards...provides quite a kick if you jump into the air and fire.

    there i suggested something instead of being the guy that shoots you down saying "oh hey just build a ship and x y z beta"

    the sniper rifle is just as lethal as the rocket launcher you just need to hit the critical points of a target.
    its satisfying dooming a pirate drone because you knocked one of its large thrusters offline.

    eh the pistols nice most likely a weak gauss or motor powered type pistol because the bullets are made only from metal.....weak enough but if you can headshot what you're aiming at if organic its decent enough

    Normally i'd say "The Handgun got ladder'd" but seeing how this now means it would turn into a paid DLC that you can't even use in the regular game it'd strike me as being a bit too cynical.

    @Arcturus to be fair it's not like you can download a convention center. (Unless you visit it in VR.)

    Space Engineers made them popular but has gotten nothing new in over a year (except bug fixing and polishing).

    I'd count on what's in it now being it unless the community keeps contributing, which is a sad state of affairs.

    The best update in over a year (PB Wi-Fi) was community driven.

    The four assault rifles was an error of the magnitude of cyberhounds in my opinion. What should they have done? The same damn thing as pretty much every FPS ever made.

    Pistol. Shotgun. Assault Rifle. Sniper Rifle. Rocket Launcher. Grenades.

    It's really not that hard. Instead we got an assault rifle with four slightly different variants and no additional ship weapons.

    So, to summarize, we have effectively one personal weapon (bullets) and two ship weapons (rockets. bullets)

    Yo Keen, the 1980's called, they want their game design back. :D

    Source? I was looking for an official explanation. See earlier in thread - evidence is that this was NEVER intended to be teased for SE, was only an internal project with HTC Vive.

    What's really bizarre is that the VR rifles textures (and a "WeaponSmall_MachineGun"(a 512x piece of junk)) are just chilling in the game files. However, there's over 20mb of junk textures in the weapons folder alone (old tool textures), so its likely a false alarm due to laziness than anything else.

    Why tease it in a Space Engineers update video (as a teaser, like they normally do) then?

    Well...let's look at this.

    Originally, we only had one rifle. It was just the 'assault rifle'. Somebody made a mod, adding a load of different weapons, and it was quite interesting. At the time, we could only have a single iteration of 'weapon' in game, and the variants had to be swapped in or out. This was not so good. Then they allowed multiple tiers of weapon....and someone made a mod to bring a load of different weapons into the game.

    All this proves it is really just a question of using the 2 basic types of projectile the game supports ( solid or explosive ) and varying the text files that define the ammo and weapon properties. Couple that with a different model and you can have a selection of weapons. To play FPS style, you just fill your selection bar with a set of guns, and that's it. The only weapon from the classic FPS set that does present a problem is the grenade/grenade launcher....as there is not a weapon type that works with a delayed explosion. You also can't throw ( in the classic sense ) an explosive block.

    There is no barrier to Keen introducing something like this......bar one really.

    That is the character animations. The mods cannot do this, and it results in some odd behaviour when the character holds a gun, or else it forces the gun model to use grips placed where the assault rifle would be held. Keen would need to code animation sequences for different weapons so the player model would run, aim and shoot differently with each weapon. Making the 4 variants of assault rifle gets around that issue....in the same way that the 4 tiers of every other tool are physically identical in terms of how the player holds and employs them.

    To be fair the rifle animations are so terrible they're going to have to do SOMETHING about animations sooner or later anyway. Handheld weapons aren't exactly high on my wishlist but even i wish for a bazooka sometimes. Especially now that they made Warheads useless.

    When you EVA to go grind that station, and a drone spawns.... I just wish for a Redeemer to lock on and wreck it.

    I suppose the engineer is not actually a military guy, if he has an assault rifle, he ought to have access to a basic sidearm, or something like the old school M79 grenade launcher. Relatively low velocity explosive warhead lobbing...on a planet...could be fun! Then scale it up for a vehicle weapon and you have a howitzer/mortar type weapon. In space....it would be useless. It would be a very slow rocket with no trail....but make the projectile subject to gravity and it gets a lot more fun.

    Mods can do this. You can change the animations for holding the guns and where the hands are located while holding them. Both of which are pretty easy to do, especially the hand positions which can be edited ingame. You can have the engineer run differently with each gun already. The only issue with their SBC animation system is that you cant use the 3rd person walking animation because you have the gall to put your mod outside the main game's content folder.

    The only barrier to making more weapons is the lack of options to differentiate different weapon types. Things like ADS Zoom, ADS Accuracy boost, Accuracy based on your movement, Accuracy modifiers by bullet, No ADS Movement penalty, no damage falloff, no equip time (rapidly spam the item slot key and fire, you'll know why this is important for low ROF weapons), No Horizontal or vertical recoil (instead the gun goes through the player model). No projectile gravity. No shooting animations to make Low ROF weapons manageable to shoot. Then there's the botched ammo type system that doesn't let you switch ammo types with any buttons.

    then again im sure we all do know engineers typrically don't have heavy or powerful weapons.
    they tend to build them instead. :p

    tfw your primary is everyone elses secondary
    but you are most useful allowing you team to advance forward lockdown an area with a sentry nest and have a constant ammo,healing and metal dispensing machine. :>
    ergo the team fortress 2 engineer.
    able to strip bullets/weapons for metal and instantly refine scrap metal into usable metal for self-building sentry guns, dispensers and one directional teleporting platforms.
