    What is the thing that most often ends up eating cpu resources in this game? Is it multiple refineries, solar panels, reactors, LCD screens, pistons, rotors or something else?

    I'm just considering to take this into account while expanding my builds.

    Physics => piston/rotors, multi-grind interaction.
    Then scripts, although it depends on how are they written ...
    LCDs that change contens - they are updated by scripts.

    Refineries, solar panels and reactors do not take that much time compared to the above.

    Not so much scripts as stuff like inventory management. The actual scripts themselves have to be really horrible to have much impact. If you have, say, sorters doing lots of stuff constantly, you'll get a similar hit

    LCD scripts though, they're very often bad, yes
