So how on earth do you guys get those wheels into tight spaces? In my survival game I can't seem to get the wheels to place at all when using the suspensions...

Basically I'm trying to setup a forklift. I'm using a mod called Torpedo Hull Set (not7cd's) and I need a loading truck.

I went to the work shop and grabbed a world where someone made 4 or 5 diff kinds of forklifts, I made a blueprint and I welded it up into the survival game.

Problem is I can't get the wheels onto the suspensions... Keep getting that error "wheel could not be placed". Obviously these designs work find in creative.....

So not sure if bug, or if I'm doing something wrong....

i dont think they work with blueprints because the wheel is a separate sub grid but they need to be placed together because f the way the wheels work being differnt to the "normal" wheels.

a work around would be to place the suspension manually

pop a topic in the bug forum so the devs know.

Yeah carrion is right about that.
You can only build one CubeGrid in space engineers with projectors as of right now. Getting more than one to work is something i personally want for sooo much longer than any planet, dx12 support, procedurally generated worlds etc .. and yet we still dont have it :(

So until they finally made that work, all you can do is what Carrion suggested already and place the suspension youself in survival after welding anything else.

That said, the designs most likely work in survival too, if they work in creative aswell and got proper access to their reactors or even have batteries with an ability to charge. You just need to learn how to get them into your game right :)

    ok let me clarify...

After welding the blueprint, I ground down the wheel hubs / suspensions whatever. and then re-placed them fresh... The wheel would not place.

I'll make a video and submit as a bug, because if you can build it in creative that means you should be able to build it in survival and visa versa .

Oh that might be because there is not enough room for the wheel to spawn. That sure is a small issue then as you had to assemble that part somewhere else and merge both ends with merge blocks.
If i got the situation right there. So yes give us a video or at least some images and we can help, or at least the workshop url with the forklift you are using.

    Merge blocks? What?

Ok the forklift is from a world on workshop. It's called "Forklifts and stuf" by TheLightLOD

It's the 3 wheel version I tried first. Here are steps to recreate.

Open world and make ctrl+b blueprint of the main body of the 3 wheel forklift (ignore the "forks" those are easy to re-create later since they won't come in multi grids and all).

Next open up a survival game (hopefully one you have a tug ship in or at least a large ship landing gear to build on.

Place a new small ship reactor and projector and load up our blueprint.

Weld it up as far as you can go. Grind off the wheel suspensions and then try and place them right back where they were.

It wouldn't let me do that.

in that case it could be that they have added blocks after the wheels were placed to make it looks all smooth and uploaded not realising.

honestly i would remove any blocks around the wheel area in creative to see if thats the issue

I got a reply from the original (I guess author is the right word?) , anyway he said that he built them by doing a frame and placing the wheels then adding the armor blocks to form the "wheel well". So that might explain it.

I'm going to play around with it in creative and see.

I could often only place wheels in a tight place by building 2 seperate objects and then 'flying' them into place

Not sure thats the case, but for others to know who already don't know.

You have to hold/keep your grid off the ground high enough that wheel has room to spawn.
If you build it from blueprint and then let it fall on the ground (station floor etc), then there is no room to spawn the wheels.

If your vehicle is already complete and driving and then you just remove the wheel - no room to place it back without raising vehicle up alittle somehow (figure out how :) )
Or delete station block below suspension, place wheel, drive out of the "hole". replace station block.

Just like in real world, think about how you change tires/wheels there ;)

Im trying to place wheels today for like 30 minutes and its just not working. Yes, if I try to place it on a single block in middle of nowhere, it works. But the place where I am trying to put them has 3 block in fron and 4 blocks on the sides completly empty. There is more than enough space to spawn this stupid 3x3 wheel, but its just not working... Any ideas?

I think they should really fix this crap, as its driving me bananas.

Ok, so I played with it some more and I found yout, you can not have any blocks around suspention itself too. I had blocks on sides that were holding it...

    Na ah, that wont work...

    BUT!
You think that worked with all dem wheels? HA! Nope, only with single wheel. Other wheels still did not work, even tho there was more than enough space for it...

Ok, I found out where was the problem with those wheels. It was that damn armor at the bottom. There was enough space, but noooope. At least on the second side I knew how to do it and I just ran completly random armor "snakes" just to the wheels, build them all and then weld rest of the station.
