While playing on a dedicated server with a friend, we took over a player ship that was attacking us. We attached it to our respawn ship via a connector and tried flying away but the ship wouldn't move faster than 3.8m/s. After switching pilots and unconnecting and connecting a bunch of times we managed to fly off with it. After about 30km the connected respawn ship started spinning wildly out of control so we were forced to disconnect it and grind it for parts. Afterwards when we tried flying again the ship was stuck with a maximum displayed speed of 3.8m/s. In addition turning off interial dampeners did not lets continue moving.

The ship is acting almost like it is stuck to something, but we are in open space. We even removed the connector incase it had some phantom connection.

Edit: Okay, did some further testing and this ship isn't moving at all. It says it is moving at 3.8m/s, but if someone is standing outside looking at it they can see that it isn't going anywhere. The ship has plenty of thrust for it's mass and no power issues.

This is still happening in 168 as well. It seems related to using connectors and one of the ships maybe not recognizing that it is no longer connected, even if you cut off connector. Restarting the server seems to correct it.

I'll give your work around a try next time it happens to me Kittle. Thanks.

Edit: Just happened again. This is getting pretty frequent. This time the ship was stuck moving at 0.1m/s and we couldn't make it stop no matter what. We tried connecting other ships to it with connectors and merge blocks but it didn't work.

Sorry for digging up an older post, but I have come across this problem a few times in the past week. First time, I was playing on a friends server. I was docked on a land based connector, unlocked the connector and tried to take off. The ship would rise about 10-15 feet off the platform and stop. After I let go of the thrusters, I would get pulled back to the platform. We ground off the connector on the base and I got pulled into the platform breaking half of it off in the process. At which point we restarted the server which fixed the problem. Since then, I started playing on a server from the listed ones in game so it would be up full time and the problem happened again last night. I have a larger mothership in mars orbit with a smaller mining ship that I keep docked to it.

I disengaged the connectors and tried to fly off, but some magical force held me within a few meters of the mothership. I went into the control panel and turned off the connector on the miner and kept the thrusters engaged so I wouldn't crash back into the larger ship. I was able to break away, kinda. My miner started floating away unresponsive at about 2m/s. All I could do was turn the connector back on, hop out, jet pack to the larger ship and do the reverse docking to try to catch it. After I got the miner reattached, I got fed up with trying to mess with it fearing I would do more harm than good and went to sleep. Apparently this is a bug that has been around for a while, is there an update if/when this may be resolved?

I had this happen to me too -- I have a large grid ship connected via landing gear and a connector to a base. I had another large grid ship connected to the first ship via a connector. I tried disconnecting and it exhibited all of these symptoms. When I disconnected the first ship, the second ship suddenly came free and crashed through the deck of the first ship. If I weren't personally running the server I would have lost both ships as I was able to quick terminate it before it could save the devastation.

This has happened to me twice now - BUT not related to the main bug in this thread.
When the small ship is "stuck" and rubberbanding to a connector (even when it's been ground away) the large ship movement was not affected for me
I was in planet gravity, not sure if that makes a difference

That was exactly what happened to me. Having a small grid ship take off from a large one, both ground and space.

Necro-post: This is happening to me right now in 1.186.5, so it's apparently still a thing.

Ye seems to be a sync issue possibly. Can happen to the player too if you round a corner to sharp or go through a door and close ot too fast you get "stuck" behind the door where it thinks you are but in actual fact you are able to walk a metre or so away and get pulled back so to speak. For ships I find the only way is to grind off the blocks closest to the other station/ship or delete it and repaste it. Its not the connectors per say unless thats the closest block between the two ships.
