I recently came into possession of the soundtrack from planetary annihilation, and i thought 'wouldn't it be cool to have this in space engineers for some super dramatic engineering!'

So ya, I was wondering if it was possible to do this so it will play it instead of the ambient music.

The music is accessible through the space engineers directory and uses the .xwm file format which was also used for Skyrim so you can simply google search for tutorials on how to convert to the .xwm file format.

Now the only problem with this is there are two possible ways that Space Engineers/Steam track the files.

1)Filename: If Space Engineers/Steam simply only validates the audio by filename then all you would have to do is rename your music tracks the same as the ones you want to replace.

2)Filename and Size: If Space Engineers/Steam validates the music file by both of these methods then you're going to have an extremely difficult time trying to replace the music as it would simply read the replaced files as invalid and rewrite them with the original files, reverting the music back to what is included with the game.

I also tried a few days ago and SE has a list of files to look for (check COntent\Data\Audia.sba with a notepad). So on top of converting mp3 to xwm (which can be done quite easily with Audacity) you have to rename everything or edit the file list...

I ended by launching my mp3 player in windows and disabling game music... it was perfect too :)

How do you disable the ingame music without muting soundblocks? Atm I can hear both.

Turn down the music volume in the sound options :)
