I'm running a hosted server via one of the official hosting companies and after a brief fight, am able to get my world to load successfully. Yay!

The trouble I'm having now is that despite my setting auto-save (to the default 5 minutes) in cfg file and when creating the world file, the game doesn't seem to save. I set the server to auto-restart every 24 hours, and when I logged on this morning, it was back to the original state when I uploaded the files.

I saw that there's no way to manually save a Dedicated Server at this time, and that's okay. Does this mean that auto-save doesn't work either? Do you instead have to point your .cfg file at the save directory instead?

    thanks, everyone -in advance. :)

When you say the autosave is enabled, is it in the CFG or the Sandbox.sbc?

    Here's the thing,
    - CFG is for generation
    - SBC is what is used for play.

There are exceptions to this, but it's generally the case. So I would check the .sbc file. Make sure the <autosave> tag is not set to 0. (The game was setting it to 0 for a while. Very frustrating.)

As for saving from ingame, there is no ability to do it with the game. Adding SEExtender does allow you the ability.

I read about SEExtender, but it looked like it was for local hosts only. Will it work on a 3rd party host?

So I edited the Sandbox.sbc file and autosave is now enabled, and it appears to be working, as it's updating my save folder every 10 minutes (AS is set for 10), but upon quitting and restarting the server, the player has to start again in a medbay or starter ship. Everything else seems to be where it is left (which is what was expected!)

    What am I missing here?

    thanks!

That is how the game works. On a dedicated you will always lose your inventory. So put it away. You will have to respawn every time. Not sure why exactly though I imagine it helps keep the save files smaller as they don't have to remember everyone and their inventories.

That's what happens on dedicated servers, when you join you have to respawn. If permanent death is enabled, you will lose ownership if you spawn in a startership or spacesuit, must have a med room.

Glad you are up and running.

SEExtender is for DedicatedServers. I am currently using it, but it does come with a few caveats. If you're running a server and not going through a hosting company, you can install it and configure it. It's not overly difficult, but can be tricky to setup. Since it is using undocumented apis, you will need to update it every time the game updates.

I do recommend you get an admin tool to help you. Midspace's admin helpers will give you some much needed help. (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=316190120) Trust me when I say, I was very happy to find it.

We help you with your dedicated server by installing SE Server Extender for you. Recently though we've seen SE Server Extender not updated to be compatible with the latest version of Space Engineers.
