I was building a Planetary Hovering Industrial Platform that I could just move to where I find the richest ore deposit.
Everything seemed ok in Creative so I wanted to see if I can feed the beast with enough fuel to fly.

    4 Large Hydrogen Tanks.
4 Large Hydrogen Thruster and 8 small ones.

To fuel this beast I placed 6 Oxygen-Generators.
But... those 6 couldnt even refill the Tanks. The 4 Large Thrusters were using it all up even in idle!
It felt like the tanks were not even filling up at all.

So the actual question is.. do you HAVE to connect the Oxygen Generator directly to the tank or can you pass the Hydrogen though other stuff like Containers, Assambler etc?

Hydrogen thrusters were meant to provide high thrust for escaping a planet. I don't think using one for sustained hovering is viable.

I've had decent luck building hovering ships using the atmospheric thrusters in Creative mode.

Yeah, hydrogen thursters are not meant for ongoing use, just bursts. They use fuel very quickly, and there may be a bug with the gas transfer at the moment.

they take forever to refill yes. You can set them to stockpile so nothing will use the hydrogen from that tank. You dont need to connect an oxygen generator directly to the tank, conveyor and stuff will work ok.

Hello I play in survival with realistic setting, in space for the moment, where I find lot of ice, so I would like to use only hydrogen thrusters to avoid to pass hours to refine what it needs to build ion thrusters..

Does someone know if it's better to stock the hydrogen as ice in a container than as hydrogen in a tank in term of space and weight ?
And does someone know if the energy amount needed to create the hydrogen is higher than the energy needed by ion thrusters for the same work ?

I think their high consumption rate is due the large abundance of ice on planets and since we're supposed to use hydrogen thrusters to get off planets it kinda makes sense, however the processing time for it should be on par with the consumption rate.

Ok I write it there also for me, for a small ship a hydrogen tank will use 4500 kg of ice and 4 minutes to refill with one oxygen generator,
It will provide the energy for 6 minutes of small hydrogen thruster and 1.3 minutes for a large one,
1 small hydrogen thruster provides the thrust of 0.6 large ion thruster or 6.8 small ones.

To answer you, to refine the hydrogen on a large grid, for a small thruster, you need 2.17 oxygen generators, and 12.8 for a large one.. so your 6 generators weren't sufficient.
    Hydrogen generation rate - Large grid : 501 H2/s

So you solution is to use hydrogen tanks, one will provide hydrogen for 6.4 minutes for a large thruster and 38 minutes for a small one (I think)
