I remember it being tricky to get oxygen to move between tanks - say, from a production base to a ship without its own ice supply. That wasn't a huge issue, though, because oxygen generators take up so little room and aren't an absolute necessity for most ships.

Hydrogen, on the other hand, is time-consuming to produce and very useful both on and off planets. Any idea how I could refill a fighter's hydrogen tanks from a large ship or station with extensive electrolysis facilities?

Good question. Would be nice to be able to do a tank to tank transfer.

Just found this little bit out:
    1. Have two tanks
    2. One tank empty second tank full.
    3. set empty tank to Stockpile:On
    4. Set Full tank to Stockpile:Off
    5. Connect via Conveyors
    6. Hydrogen Xfers

    Hi,
dont work by me, but i am connected via Connectors... I have a Base with full Tank. And a Ship with empty Tank. I have NO Ice for Gemerator... Just the full Hydrogen-Tank in Base. I must have my Hydrogen in my Ship. I set the Shiptank to Stockpile, and the Basetank not. I am connected (Connector).
Now i start the Game and test it again. Nothing.
How can i transfer Hydrogen? And Oxygen?
    GREETINGS!

Make sure you own all the blocks and they're not just set to "nobody".

    Might make the difference.

Owernship issues aside, it can be fiddly to do tank-tank transfer.

The source tank needs to be set on Stockpile off, the destination tank needs to be set to Stockpile on, but sometimes even when you do this it wont transfer. I generally make the connection first, set the tanks to their correct modes and then have to toggle Stockpile on/off/on on the destination tank before it starts filling.

Oddly, most times when I connect my small grid ship to my large grid station... it transfers without me having to fiddle with the stockpile setting.

Sure would be nice to get a sort of 'gas sorter block' ;)

Ye Tank it is fiddly but like you said you sometimes have to "coax" it into wanting to share the gas but bottom line it is possible and works so we're all good :)

Just like sometimes I have to take a grinder to a hangar door to kick it open. These things have minds of their own... just show it a little force and it will behave.

is there a way to take O2 or H out of the bottles that a player would use? i have a large stock pile of H bottles and i would like to empty them back into the large tank so i can use it in my ship and also in some mods

I think you can not fill an empty tank using a full one, they just split the hydrogen 50/50

I'd be interested if you can get hydrogen out of bottles but I didn't think it was possible at all

Not possible afaik. If I put a hydrogen bottle in an empty tank it doesnt empty the bottle. Bottles are one way it seems but I dont see an issue with that.

the reason for getting the gas out of the bottle is mainly a way to have a way to use gas from a default game tank to create a item form so a mod can use the gasses that are stored in a tank

now could you use a hydrogen thruster that looks like alternate block. then have the thruster not really apply thrust ever and as a player moves the thruster override slider you then can calculate the amount of hydrogen coming out of the tank then from that number have the mod place the equivalent amount of the item you are using? then for the 02 you can do the same thing just with a vent? or look into how some mods use 02 to power thrusters then use the same idea as stated for the hydrogen
