After some thought and many complaints, we decided to reboot the voting and change the system so we can get as clear results as possible. Unfortunately we couldn’t have the feedback that we wanted from the previous procedure, so it’s better for everyone to restart it. Please see below for the new voting rules:

    - Keen Software House will choose the best 10 entries for each category
    - Players will then vote for the best out of the top 10
    - The voting will take place on our Steam Forum
    - Only people who own the game can participate (this can be identified by the mouse icon next to the username)
    - The voting will last for 2 weeks - EDIT: Dates will be announced on a later date after Keen Software House decides on the best 10 entries for each category
    - Each person can vote for only one entry
    - To vote, you just need to reply under the Steam thread and post the number of the entry that you choose (eg. Entry 1)
    - The winners will be announced a few days after the voting ends

Sweet! A proper voting method. That's a load of jazz off my mind.

    Subliminal messaging, much? :D

M3A7, I dont know who was winning, but it seems like you were, or were close. If this was the case, then I dont see how this really hurts you, as you would then be able to get voted back up again. I worry that if you were leading before, and you now have this sort of attitude, that the circumstances behind your votes may not have been above board.

M3A7, you do realise that what you just said means you cheated? The hours you spent making the map are not lost, remember you are not eliminated from anything (yet). And "campaigning and advertising"? Really? If you trully did advertise the game, then all the people who voted for you have the game and they can vote for you again, which would only be fair. If, however, you merely advertised your map, then they can't, and it's just as fair.

This change is good, at least if people want to create dummy accounts, their money will help making the game. :D

Uggghhh Keen Software House you're going to make my heart implode! One of mine was in second place with two days left to go! I kept checking it whilst being super on-edge/excited that it was doing so well and might or might not have just clutched at victory! And now the voting is restarting!? My heart can't take the stress haha!

Wow, M3A7. You serious? Be ready to pay a hefty fine for bringing a completely and utterly frivolous case to court. Suing over a video card. Yeeeah...

If you're kidding then I totally missed it.

If you are completely serious..... umadbro?

And George... I'm glad you folks decided to stop and listen to the people of the forum. Not many developers would give a shaggy fff- about it. Kudos.

Now excuse me while I head over to the thing and wish everyone luck.

I am not sure what M3A7 said, cause it is now deleted. But I can tell you that he was winning by more than 10 votes and that I know he would never cheat! I am a streamer on Twitch and I know the guy He comes to my stream all the time. He plays on my server and hangs out in my TeamSpeak.
The way that I'm rushing to his defense, I'm sure many of you will think I might be an alt of his or some BS, but for those of you who don't know me, I'll be talking about this on my stream tonight and all weekend, just so you can see my face and hear me talk about it. M3A7 is a regular on my stream and has made many friends there who all play SE. He made most of these friends long before the contest, by being and awesome guy who makes awesome things in SE.

I played his levels for the contest on my stream and we had many people watching and they cam and voted for him because he made an awesome level. I know of about 30 people to vote for him in just that one day. I know how hard he worked on it, cause he disappeared for all of November and barely played my server so he could complete it.

He worked super hard on his entry and was understandably pissed about the sudden rule change. He may have gone a bit overboard, but it's cause he really wanted to win. Not for the card, but for a chance to show Keen his hard work. He has been seriously considering applying for a job there and is willing to pick up and move the Prague to work there.

Could he have handled it better? Sure. But does he deserve a perma-ban from the forums for that? NO! That's ridiculous. This is a forum. A place to voice opinions. Let him speak his mind and don't silence him. I don't know the laws in Prague, but in the US, if you put down rules for a contest, you aren't allowed to change them halfway through. I think we all know that a lawsuit would be silly over something like this and M3A7 was just blowing off steam.

I'm not trying to advertise here, but I want George and the rest of the staff to know how much free advertising they get out of me. I know that I am responsible for at least 50 new players purchasing SE, if not more. I have personally bought over 10 copies of Space Engineers and handed them out to my viewers in giveaways. I have had 5 more copies given to me by viewers to be used in my giveaways. I may not be a huge streamer, but if you've watched any Space Engineers on Twitch, you have probably seen me. I have streamed SE 4-5 days a week for 5 months. I have over 500 hours of SE gameplay on Twitch and YouTube.
I am constantly building up the SE community and bragging about how awesome the SE players are and especially talking up the devs. I have always had a very high opinion of the Keen Staff. But if M3A7's entry is removed from the contest just because he had a knee jerk reaction to an unfair rule change, then I may have to reconsider how much support I put behind this company. I have defended many decisions Keen has made over the last year, in the forum, in comments sections on YouTube and FB. But censoring player who was in the lead by a large margin after rule change like this seems very wrong and clandestine to me.

I hope to see his entry listed in the new top 10, because he deserves a fair chance and he was in 1st place with 50 votes, compared to the next guy with 37 or 38 votes. And if so, I know he will come in first again. His forum ban should be lifted too, cause that is just wrong. I have talked to him. I know he will not blow like that again. And, George, for what it's worth, he sorry for what he said about you.

A recent update to the API has changed BoundingSphere to BoundingSphereD , I've hotfixed the script for my entry to fix that so it runs again, not updated anything else.
Other people should check their scripting still functions.

If you mean show the entries with random numbers for each person, that can't be done.

The amount of effort I have put forth is minimal compared to what any of the contestants have made. I simply put forth a few words in defense of a good person who has been silenced. If it was too much for you to read, so be it. Dismissing me as crazy for it seems a bit much.

    wow.

way to pull the rug out.
thats an EXCELLENT way to get yourself a lawsuit.
you cant change the rules at the last moment. at least not in the United States.

BTW hawthorn 11 votes is just a pathetic as none
also, i voted for M3A7 your map was substandard at best.
if i get banned i'm going to claim censorship. this post doesn't violate any forum rules. Scarletrever streamed this map and i loved it. so i voted for it. (and i play tested it) EVERY single vote was legitimate. I know, I was there when most of them came in.

so go ahead, ban me, screenshot-ed and saved for proof.

So I voted for M3A7 and I don't actually fully understand what is going on right now. I will be honest and say that I have played many of the maps and I thought that M3A7 had the most interesting and useful maps, nothing against the other maps mind you. The other maps were really good, I liked the mini-games like Game of Stones :D So I really hope that no-one is being punished for something said out of the heat of the moment, anyone who had the votes reset is definately confused right now and a little angry and I hope that noone has actually been hurt by this.

I just realized you were in the fan fiction part of the contest, not the level design. As a writer, you should not be so quick say TL;DR. You two are not even competing in the same category.

I have to talk for up to 12 hours a day in my stream. In my real job I write installation reports longer than that. It's nothing for me to blurt out a few quick paragraphs in defense of a bro. It's the least I can do for all he's done for me.

Maybe it will have little effect, but it was worth the effort. I just hope the devs see that his outburst doesn't negate his hard work or hours he has put into the game. He has played this game more than anyone I know. And that's saying a lot. I've most of the big players in my stream at one point or another. Most the people I play with have around 500 hours, I have about 700, and he has more than triple mine, last time I checked.

Oh and it appears that this may not be legal to put this contest on steam.
Keen may wanna check with their legal dept. before proceeding with this.

I would count every one of those 10 entries picked by devs as a winners. There might be some really unexpected entries and some famous entries might be left out. Why? Because at the moment it has been cheating and popularity contest with many unfamiliar names getting left without any attention. I really hope the devs have courage to pick the entries they think are good and not just which entries got most votes here.

After the 10 entries have been selected not much will change. There won't be cheating (I hope) but the winner will still be the most popular person as people ain't still going to check other entries and popular persons are just going to influence the voting (getting votes from space engineers players who won't even try any other entry) and that's a really great way to see what kind of levels people enjoy .

What is really sad about this competition is how desperate people are to win. For your next competition, please...PLEASE don't offer any rewards. I thought this community was mature enough to handle competitions like gentlemen but it seems it's just full of kids who absolutely have to win.

I have a friend whom I play Space Enginners with and he made an entry. He asked me to go and vote, but only after I have played through every single entry. With his words "It would be really stupid, pointless and childish competition if everyone would just get their friends to vote for their entries".

And would you just stop this manchild behaviour allready, just stop lobbying for your friends entry and stop affecting the voters. He has made a really good level that I personally consider the one that could get my vote in the end.

He has already really big following and wayyy more views than most other entries. He has the ammount of favourites than most entries have views . If you wan't to behave like a proper human being then play trough all of the levels in your stream. Your kind of people are the very problem why "letting the community decide" is never going to work.

Just stop, and let the competition be fair!

The only reason I am lobbying for my friend is because he has been silenced and has no way to defend himself. We have discussed many of the levels on my stream. I actually planned on running many of the top voted levels on stream tomorrow (Technically tonight - Saturday Night Stream). I invite all level designers to come to my stream and we can interview them and play their level.

I am not against a fair competition. I am against rule changes in the middle of the voting process. This change will not make things any difference. You think any voting process is not a popularity contest? That exactly what voting is.

I apologize. Got a bit of a wrong vibe from what you were writing. I just get so angry when this kind of a competition that could easily be made fair for everyone, is just made a contest of who can rally most people to vote.

Just for the record. Most likely yours actions will be read out as bad PR for yours buddy if you will continue in this attitude. He did really good map. Let it speak for itself.

KEEN you guys are my personal heros for doing this. As I said in previous topic this could be really bad idea...
Some people who were on the lead could get heart attack from this :woot: But this move was really needed.

People who are most angry about this go change yours pants for some less tight and move on.

I can agree with this. The most reasonable way to fix the contest's issues was to restart it. Culling all but Keen's chosen entries is a good bit of simplification, too.

wait what? i doubt you read the entirety of the information posted. steam rules of conduct EXPRESSLY FORBID THIS. if your willing to risk a forum/account permaban go for it. that means you could , in a worst case scenario. LOSE all of your games. for me thats about 500 USD in titles.

if they really want to make a vote work, ask people to paste there steam id's into there vote. this would allow a minuscule amount of research into there accounts and verify they have a copy of the game. the reason we are getting our pants tightened over this (isnt that a bit sexist? you should be ashamed) is the simple fact that we the community have a vested interest . we helped these people play test, we helped them refine there ideas so that the maps where improved.

    The obligatory PR comment

stoping the contest with 3 days left to go was a bad bad move. and is going to result in anger and hurt feelings. and may very well result in a sever drop in the free advertising that keen gets via streamers and twitch in general. I dont know about you but i have never seen any advertising that wasnt a sale announcement on steam. i know of probably a hundred people that purchased SE after seeing it on a twitch stream.

Dont alienate the people making you money.
