Hi guys. I just recently got Space Engineers since I heard great things about it. I don't have Windows, but I heard that it runs decently in WINE with few issues, so I thought it would be nice to pick up.
I've tried pretty much everything at this point and read through every forum post and entry on WineAppDB but I still can't get this to work.
When I try to launch the game, the game starts to launch (A black window pops up), but then after a few seconds the game crashes (Presumably while loading?) to this error: [IMG]
Here's the log that it generates: https://pastebin.com/TuecxNEA
Before I go through the steps I've gone troubleshooting this, I'll mention that I'm running the game through PlayOnLinux.
Steps I've tried to solve this:
    1. Created a 32bit wine prefix
    2. Installed vbrun6, corefonts, dotnet40, msxml3 (dotnet40 would fail to install without this component), and directx9 (I have tried running it both with directx9 installed from PlayOnLinux and without directx9 installed)
    3. Removed the checksum.xml file in the space engineers content directory
    4. Set WINE to use the native rather than builtin for the "oleaut32" dll in winecfg. (I've tried it both with the asterisk in front and without; tbh I have no idea what the asterisk means in winecfg.) [IMG]
    5. Disabled dsound in winecfg

    My system specifications:
    CPU: Intel i5 4690k
    GPU: AMD Radeon R9 290X
    RAM: 8GB
    OS: Arch Linux x86_64 3.17.4-1-ARCH
    Video Drivers: AMD proprietary; fglrx
I know that this shouldn't be an issue with my system video drivers since I have other 32bit windows games like League of Legends working perfectly in WINE.
Anyone have any ideas what could be the cause of this issue?

Its broken, thats all I know. I have run it before with a little help from a guy named nolan-Something-I-cant-spell he's the one who was managing the wine page on this but recently Keen broke it. It also might be that it only runs on 32 bit linux because thats what I had. I have not bothered to test it in a good while but maybe its fixed.

I would recommend that you contact nolan he seems to have disappeared from the forums ever since it was broke.

    I've found using PlayOnLinux works.
Instead, only disable oleaut and install vbrun and dotnet40.
Make sure that you don't have any old graphics drivers lying about.
(Unfortunately Space Engineers, for me, has that weird bug where the character is a white outline at the top of the screen and the jetpack is in the middle. I use AMD and have no idea what 3D vision is)

I have it working on Linux and vanilla Wine (Current dev release) and with the steps you describe it works for me. Note that I would use WINEARCH=win32 not just for creating the wineprefix, but for using winecfg and I would start Windows steam with WINEARCH=win32 wine Steam.exe -no-dwrite. Note that I am experiencing the slowdown problem associated with the despawn problem, but I have not created a new map/world and see if that fixes the issue.
