I haven't been able to make myself play since the MWO dev's have made terrible decisions with the game's direction. Honestly, I wish it wasn't another free-to-play.

Don't like MechWarrior Online. Only freeborn scum is playable.

Bought into it early on... played it, and played it, and played it. I still have not gotten what was promised in the damn founder's subscription crap. Worst devs ever! Never did get a damn refund either, those greedy !#&$!#$! Its a crappy game, made by crappy people, and has no right to be even remotely associated with MechWarrior or FASA. And don't even get me started on STO. >:-(

I know lot of jung people was disappointed, but becose they moust of time never did play orginal mechwarriors games, imagine curent mech warriors. 10x slower and you get first mech warriors ( graphic a side ) where you did play one mision for hour or two and when you pick bad weapons on start, you had start again before end of mission, same when did you die ( no save points :D )

It was moust similar to tank simulators in future mechs. Thats why a lot of new players prefer new action mech games, witch are basicaly first person shooters and mech work like suit on player body + customize weapons. But mech warriors never went this way... so you just didnt get info about game... and bought it....

I did tried MWO, but wasn't too enjoyed... Not sure - why exactly. May be because of maps - lot of huge obstacles, too small open areas and narrow passes, only one strategical height in single map, which i do remember... And a gameplay on such maps is something of Counter-Strike...
    Now returned to WOT.

I played BattleTech way back when. The first MechWarrior games really captured the way the board game played. The MS-DOS title Mechwarrior being the first video game in the BattleTech universe back in 1989. Once Microsoft secured the rights to the franchise they made 3 great main titles for it. MechWarrior, MechWarrior II, and MechWarrior 3. They also made mercenaries sub classes of II and III as well, MechWarrior II: Mercenaries being my favorite (MS-DOS & Windows 95).

The franchise started going downhill with the MechWarrior IV series. THAT was when it started to turn into an FPS in multi-ton Mechs. Perhaps its just my lack of love for FPS titles clouding my view, but I really REALLY hate the limited strategy involved in modern MechWarrior titles. It always boils down to who has the luck of the draw. Ya know back in the board game days there really wasn't very many super weapons and even the high caliber ones were not one shot deals. Going forward to some of the early Microsoft titles, your mech could stand off with another mech toe to toe for five to ten minutes sometimes if you had two good pilots. Imagine that, a mech duel, one on one, lasting five to ten MINUTES, not five to ten seconds. You could clear an entire platoon of lesser mechs with an Atlas, or a Direwolf. Nowadays an entire battle session lasts all of 5 minutes.

Sure its faster and to some folks it might be more enjoyable. I know one thing though. My daughters use to think MWO was awesome until I scrapped together an old Win 95 machine and booted up MechWarrior II Mercenaries. They still play MWO from time to time but I'd guess that for every hour they play MWO they play ten hours of MW II: Mercs

Companysized battles can last hours, but in MWO 5-10 min. I still play CBT and a light mech can still take more than 3 salvos. But they ruined it for the casual-gamers.

I have never really been one to worry about casual gamers honestly. Casual gaming is the byproduct of mobile technology that has broken into the main line of video games. Before smartphones and tablets and browser games and all that kinda stuff from the last 20 years, there were no casual gamers. Nowadays it seems like EVERY game company has to try to appease casual gamers but sacrificing good gameplay. I look at MWO as a casual gamer's version of the MechWarrior franchise. To me its no different than those ridiculous Facebook games and smartphone games.

Well its true balance is mechwarriors online is so-so and maps are small + missing small vehicles from previous series and some co-op mode in old school style vs AI on big maps ( me favorite was destroing convoys :D ) and no one did run around like crazy. :)

Sorry. I just think it's a pain to use the UI right now and it turns me off from playing. It feels like the devs are missing some basic needs for the game and are instead focusing on the free-to-play earnings.

I love mechwarrior! The 4th game was my inspiration to get a degree in mechanical engineering. But now that I have the knowledge and am working in software development, I feel like I could make a better MW game if I had the time.

Oddly enough Stuff, I play MWO. I have been in since closed beta, and mostly use a DD-c to inforce my forum policys :)

I admit that the game has its development issues but I have only spent 12$ and played well over 200 hours so I am in the camp of thinking the game is still good.
Really funny thing is I spent 12$ but due to the last few free mech n mech bay weekends they have now paid me to play if you think about it.

You can add me if you want pilots name is sir deathshead.

This. I was a Legendary Founder and ardent supporter until it became clear that it was not the MechWarrior game I had been waiting all these years to play.

@ wanker, what did you really want out of the game that you didn't get ( yet )?

They have done a pretty decent job of sticking to sarna, it's free, and Ui 2.0 is awesome ....ok maybe not the last one, but it's not like they turned it into something that isn't fun to play.

After using it for a while I have gotten used to it, it's usable, but still very poorly laid out. Why for Crom's sake is it so hard to see where my modules are ??? That would be a dlc I'd pay for, a find my module, module.

As a long-lasting BattleTech fun, I hate MWO. It left way to many broken promises. Game has a lot of hidden terribad mechanics like "ghost heat" (like, your 3rd PPC in a salvo will create more heat, than it should) and poor inconsistent hit detection (it looks like it was their way of balancing out light mechs). Add the "OP build of the patch" to the list (there were times when teams of 12 long range jumpsniping Highlanders were the only way to play if you wanna win). UI2.0 looks so bad and gives a poor playing experience. Even exiting the game properly was a problem.

You know, if you are a BattleTech/Mechwarroir fan, keep away from it. It makes a mess of canon and designs (clockwork gauss anyone?), the upcoming clan tech is screwed beyond imagination (they should be the most customizable mechs, yet they will be the least customizable!).
If you are not a BT fan, then keep away from it. If will offer you nothing, but hours of grind for a new mech, poor weapon balance, poor game mechanics, that have no logical explanation and are hard to guess. The hit detection will screw you even more (yea, killing a light mech is more a problem, then assault mech sometimes). Also, the leveling is bad and you'll have to grind for the new overpowered mech that everyone are using if you wanna be competitive.

A simple statistics: of 30 players in my unit (corporaton), only 4 left playing MWO... from time to time).

Wanna a fun game? Try something else.
Wanna a mech game? Try Mechwarrior: Living Legends.

Ghost heat was a stupid move I agree there. I have never ran the cheese lander build ever, and still won plenty of games versus it .

It's not a perfect game by any means, but compared to say Hawken, I'd take ghost heat , UI 2.blo and gimped clans over it.

I want to make a mech sim that isn't battletech but allows custom models for mechs so that community generated content can make it into the next mechwarrior.

I played MechWarrior Online quite a bit back during the closed beta but I got burned out since there were only 3 maps and limited game types. I need to take a second look at the game, it's probably been over a year since I've played.

    Clearly you didn't play MW1 MW2 nor MW3.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
MechWarrior (1) was produced by Dynamix, published by Activision.
MechWarrior 2, Mercenaries and Ghost Bear's Legacy was produced & published both by Activision.
MechWarrior 3 was produced by Zipper Interactive, published by MicroProse.

Microsoft did NOT do any of those 3. They only published MechWarrior 4: Vengeance & Mech Commander 2, which both was produced by FASA Interactive.

Come on... How did you not remember all those fancy intro video for each one of them? They clearly stated who did what.

    I <3 MW3

And everyone complaining about ghost heat and all their attempts to balance, go play a multy game with MW3 and cry over geting one shot in your dashi by streaks, or leged(one leg lost is a kill fyi) by a puma running ultra AC20s

I wanted a good game. One of the biggest selling points for me was the Community Warfare metagame. It's been over a year and a half since I got my founder's pack. There is no Community Warfare. There are also gameplay-related issues, but listing them would just start a pointless discussion of whose idea of fun is superior. In my opinion, the devs thoroughly butchered what could have been an awesome game. It's now just average, sub-par F2P drivel with a Battletech universe theme.
