because i am going to be losing my internet very soon for quite some time, and i hate that it is online only through steam just to play, unless i have misunderstood and it is possible to play it with no internet.

is there a solution / workaround otherwise?, and if not how would one be able to achieve this?

    **EDIT**
awe crap...can't edit thread title...disliking this new forum more and more
can we have moderator rights to our own created threads for this? but only with the extent of permissions to edit thread titles only that we started if possible. and moderator rights to delete our own replies as well?

Just turn Steam on offline mode, and it should be fine.

Yes, as long as you aren't using mods.

Steam also had to be started in offline mode before you lose internet in many cases.
It should be able to switch from online to offline mode when you lost connection already, but that caused issues many times already. So try not to risk it if you want to make sure.

Yes, better keep it offline. I play sometimes with my laptop when im at work and even then, sometimes it doesnt validate and ask me to start steam in online mode ( not really an issue, I use my phone as router, start steam, then restart in offline mode ), if this isnt an option for you, make sure you properly close steam before closing your computer, as long as I know, if you close steam in offline mode, it should stay that way.

EDIT: We do have a really nice cellphone roaming where I live. Sometimes I get 1.3-1.4mb/s, using my phone !!

Yep, definitely. I went without internet for a while once and had never started Steam in offline mode.

It was months before I could play games again. :(

So, during that time I had the resources available on my computer to build a simple game and 3D models for it. I had a little fun and learned a lot in the process, but never completed the project before I got internet back and could play proper games again. :D

Just start steam or space engineers directly, steam will say it cannot connect and there is a button that says "Start in offline mode", click on it and then the game will launch normally.

I've played offline a couple of times before with no problems of any kind.

I've never had any trouble with offline mode, but I really wish mods would be made to work offline instead of requiring active internet. My internet is spotty and can make loading a game impossible sometimes. :/

They do work if the world was created with internet connection. Not sure why we cant create worlds with mods we already have in our computer.

If you do want to use mods, here is a way of using them:
    1. Download and install 7-zip, Making sure to download the correct version for your operating system (X86 for 32-bit and X64 for 64-bit) If you don't know which type your OS is, use the 32-bit (X86) Version
    2. Start a new world with all the mods you want before you loose your net, Once loaded close the game
    3. Go to C:\Users\***YOUR USERNAME HERE***\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\ and open the "mods folder"
    4. Once in the mods folder, you will see many files called something along the lines of 123456789.sbm select them all and right click
    5. In the right click menu, you should see a new option that says 7-ZIP expand this list and click on the option "Extraxt to *\" (NOTE: If only one file is selected, it will say extract to "filename") This may take some time, depending on the amount and size of the mods.
    6. The extracted mods are now local and will show up in the mods list of a new world even if you are offline, the will not be called what the mod was called however, the will be called something akin to 123456789. There is no way I know of you fix the names if you don't know what numbers correspond to what mods (if you do, just rename the folders)
Its a little hacky, but it works.

NP, PM me with any issues
The mod files(the .sbm s) are actually .zips in disguise, using 7zip you need to unzip or extract them (se step 5) once extracted they appear as folders in the mods directory, where the game will see the folders as offline mods. The folder name of the mod does not matter as the game just uses that folder name as the title of the mod in the mod screen(EG if the folder is called "my folder" it'll show up as my folder in the in game mod list. at the end of the thing your mod folder should look something like this
    [IMG]
Where 1 is a mod that I extracted (and renamed)

I can't load worlds with mods without internet. Offline mode is fine, but if the computer is actually cut off from the internet, then when the game checks for updates to mods on loading a world it fails and won't load at all. Even though the mods are sitting there, on my hard drive.

Indeed workshop mods dont work while not being online on steam. Though the above approach to unpack all mods and make them "local mods" works. For when someone is offline for a longer period of time that even is a feasible appraoch as the time you are able to use mods - even though offline - greatly compensates the little work you have with unpacking and appropriately renaming the folder.

this is because the game wants the most updated copy of the mod. By unpacking the mod(which is very simple; see my above post), it becomes "local" and without any ties to the workshop

oooh, so it still loads an existing save even if I've only played with the workshop version before? nice, thanks for that info. :)

Only if you exchange the workshop mod with the local mod to play. Otherwise it will try to update the workshop mod and thus fail to load.

    THIS

so back up the original files to someplace else then just copy over the unzipped files to where the MODS would be

Oops! Sorry! I didn't stress that that needs to be done! But it does. If you are looking to rename the mods, hovering your mouse over the workshop mod in-game will tell you the file name, and from there you can rename the extracted folder
