I've just come back to this game after a long hiatus (switched medieval engineers for space engineers) but i remember last time i played there were servants i could assign to roles like guarding, mining, or woodcutting and they were a decent help in survival once i finally got enough resources to start building a castle. well, i'm at that point now and it's definitely been a slow process. I know it will take time to build one, but the extra logs or stone or iron that i could get from peasants could help save time.

All i can see in the "bots" window is barbarians or deer. Have the peasants been removed temporarily/permanently?

We want to have NPCs in our game. What we will be able to do with them is completely unknown at this time. Everything in games takes a lot of time to complete. We work with limited people and resources to make our game, however, we're also working every step of the way to develop our engine along with the game. This gives us a lot of freedom to work but it also means that nothing is ever easy. We can't just design and implement a feature. We can't just add a bot and give it behavior. We have to write the code in the engine to make those things possible first, before we can even start adding them to the game.

If you look at the majority of games, they use pre-existing, licensed game engines that are developed by large companies. Some of the more popular engines are CryEngine, Frostbite, id Tech, IW Engine, RenderWare, Source, Unity, and Unreal Engine. If you look through these you will see how many games have the advantage of using these established engines that allow them to develop new games rapidly. There are very few exceptions but Keen Software House is one of those. We are building the tools to continue developing our game right now. Is it slow? Absolutely! But it means that we are developing features in completely new ways. Some will be better and some will be worse, but it makes our games unique in a way that few others are. Whether you stay with us through our development or move on, we believe in the experience that we are creating. Every day is an adventure and a challenge for us. We go to work every day to make something new and to be better than yesterday. Some day our adventure and challenge will be bots. Until then, we rely on our friends to keep us company in this lonely medieval world.
