I've learned not to have anything to do with Kickstarter games.

In this case, it looks suspiciously like StarMade, and the budget is implausibly small.

Thats because there is only one guy working on it for now, so the $$$ goal is small, but ig the final $$$ collected exceeds 50k he will hire more people to help him.

Its worth looking into it, all the videos that the guy made and everything he showed is really worth it and well made, he did a video with Video Sage where he explains in depth how he did what he did and whats the goal.

    To make it short some of the key features are;

-FULLY explorable Galaxy!, select a point on the galactic map, warp there and explore the solar systemes, nebuleas around, each star that is visible on the Skybox is the actual Stars and planets that you can explore that you see from afar!
-A freeform building systeme, think like a mix Between SE and Avorion building systemes, well its more like legos actually, like you have blocks and on each blocks you had "dots" or "studs" where you can place smaller blocks, think like if in SE you could mix Small blocks and Large Blocks.
-Jet bikes, Hover cars/tanks, ships, Gundam style mechs or Mechwarrior style mechs, you can do anything you can think off, and its all supported by the game engine.

On SE if you want to build a mech, the way you make it move is by using an assortement of Pistons and rotors and programme blocks and timers etc, you know how a PITA it is to make a "mech" walk in SE, well in Skywanderers, a Gundam style mech, controls just like your character.

-Multiple factions, NPCs/Players, Aliens and humans, for you to trade with, fight for/against.

-EXTENSIVE logic gate systeme for you to design your ships mecanisms and systemes, i mean just look at the videos, its freakin darn impressive!

Honestly i think its impressive and the work the guy did on its own for the last year is fantastic and its a title that would be worth to be on the look out.

I've backed it, because i think this guy is deserving.

Love the look of Skywanderers. The logic gate system looks like something I could get into. I will be keeping a Keen eye on this one.

Different people find interest in different things, and there is always room for new ideas and games if they are up to standard.

The big question with any kickstarter, and the reason people feel they get burned by them, is whether all the promised things come to pass.

Take, for example, Planet Nomads ... .it does a lot of things well that SE does badly .... but it also doesn't have the same scope as SE or the same complexity. I enjoy it for what it is...but they have recently announced that MP will not be happening, and it's caused a minor uproar. They never promised it .... but were going to look at it as a 'nice to have' later in development. Then they realise how much of a minefield it is ( look at SE multiplayer and the amount of time, money and blood/sweat/tears that has absorbed )and drop it. Waaahh...the game is ruined....

Skywanderers has set out a pretty impressive outline and I will watch to see how it grows and develops. To start with...it looks a bit too Starmade for my taste, but that may change. I also do not like the pre-made mech idea. If it works as...say...a series of 'joint' blocks where you make what goes in between, then cool. I'm in!

I'll follow it on Steam. I might buy it on EA if it looks good. But I don;t feel the urge for backing it until I can see which way it's going to go

It's just a demo. But where it's beating up on SE is where SE is failing: moving subgrids (rotors/pistons). The blocks can transform, lift, extend, rotate, in ways that SE can't even touch. Vanilla retractable landing gear, cockpits that open and close, etc.

I don't like the Lego or Minecraft look. But the functionality is great.

The lego/minecraft look might just be a temporary thing. It makes it very easy and quick for them to create something to show off and it works without draining much resources.

Yea, the lego/minecraft look is also what would deter me.

My guess being it isn't the usual "this game will be the death of SE, everyone should jump ship" type of thread, it's just a "here it is".

If you are bothered by it being here the report button is waiting for somebody to press it and report it.

Nah, I'm by no means bothered. Just surprised. They're usually rather quickly moved.

Space Engineers doesn't exist in a bubble. The more popular Space Engineers becomes, the more incentive for others to mimic it. Being able to look at the features and compare is very helpful. It also sheds light on what is possible (apart from budget and time concerns).

    Competitive intelligence is always relative.
