    Hey there,

So this is an idea I've had for a while: a serious 6DOF space ship racing league for Space Engineers, with rules and race procedures based off of real life - the GSF Formula G Championship. I'm posting sort of a taster of the procedure and rule set, as well as what we'd need to make it happen since SE doesn't include any of the stuff we need just yet. This is intended to gague interest, so if you're interested in either racing or officiating, please post below!

    - Procedure -
    Pre-race:
    • Open practice, one hour
    • Pre-qualifying technical inspection
    • Elimination-based qualifying consisting of three rounds
    • Round one: 30 minutes, slowest third of the field has their grid positions locked in
    • Round two: 20 minutes, slowest half of the remaining field is locked in
    • Round three: 10 minutes, sets the grid for the top third of the field
    • Post-qualifying technical inspection
    • Warm-up: 10 minutes
    • Pre-race inspection
    Race:
    • At least 2 parade laps behind the pace ship prior to the race
    • Flying start: after the pace ship pulls off, the race begins immediately
    • Full caution system: in the event of an accident or of debris in the racing line, the pace ship will be called and escort the racers around at reduced speed while the rescue crew tends to the caution and makes the course safe again
    • Victory ceremonies at the end of the race
    • Post-race tech
    - What we'd need to make it happen -
    Officials:
    • Tech inspector
    • Scorekeepers
    • Pace ship pilot
    • Rescue crew
    • Script writer for the timing and scoring system, and any other scripts that may be needed
    Teams:
    • Racers (obviously)
    • Crews for each ship to help the racers refuel and repair their craft
    Tentative rules taster:
    • As a baseline, the series will use seven mods:
    1. Azimuth Complete Mega Mod Pack
    2. Riders Modular Thrusters
    3. Carbon Fibre Blocks Mod
    4. Reworked Armor Ramps Mod
    5. Reworked Armor Panels Mod
    6. Warbros ModLabs Long Ramps
    7. Small Ship Mega Mod Pack
    • Other mods are also acceptable, however they would need to be reviewed by GSF Formula G Championship staff prior to being allowed in or denied.
    • Minimum ship weight: 45,000kg
    • Maximum ThrustMult: 800,000 forward, 400,000 reverse, 150,000 directional. If you're submitting a new mod that includes thrusters, it would have to be verified to not exceed 200,000 ThrustMult per thruster.
    • No weapons allowed
    • All ships would be outfitted with programmable blocks for caution cruise control and pit road cruise control. Additional programmable blocks, timers, projectors and LCDs may be added at the discretion of the designer.
As you can see, this would be a serious racing league only for those committed to the game. Racing would be tight, fast, exciting, fair and realistic! So, if this sounds like something you'd be interested in, please, please, please post what position you'd like to be in below!

I'd like to participate, but I dunno if the timezone would allow me to not need to hurt my liver to do so. (I'm 13 hours ahead of US times btw)

If it does, probably I will be in the Pace pilot or Rescue crew. I definitely wanna race with my goodies though.

I wish you the best of luck with this.

Now this is interesting. Will the race be in space or on a planet? Does the ship need wheels?

I'm more of a Baja 360km /cannonball run race around the planet kinda guy.

Where daily events are races to checkpoints strung around the world. Could be multiplayer, or could just be time trials

In space, hence "6DOF racing league." So no, you won't need wheels.

I see, that's good, since I can't design anything with wheels that doesn't flip from a 1° turn. Also what does "6DOF" mean? Never heard of it before.

Six degerees of freedom. Essentially, you can freely move in any direction, just like, well, in space. :D
