I created a mining ship that the game is not yet ready for, the Mado. I am waiting for a patch to fix some drill issues, but this ship boasts the following:

    2x Antennas
    2x Gatling guns
    20x Gyroscopes
    1x Ore Detector
    39 Reflector Lights
4x Large Reactors (432 GW Power)
    121x Small thrusters
    67x Ship Drills
    2x Cockpits
    1x Large 5x5x5 Storage Container
Multiple escape routes for rocks & debris
    Mass: 132,533 kg

After more features are finished, I hope to create a custom large mining ship to carry this beast...

Whoa, I haven't really made a mining vessel purely to mine but if I did that would be what I'd have made...more or less.

Normally I make fighters capable of converting into mining vessel.

As of right now I'm guessing it doesn't work right.

When you have around 20-30 drills the rest WILL not work

so basically you have just put a load of drills on the bare minimum of everything else ? its kinda ugly as hell too :p

Bare Minimum? I crammed equipment into every usable hole that I could find...

Can it pierce through the heavens?

    Okay design, but

    - doesn't have enough storage space
    - doesn't seem to use conveyors (so it'll be useless in actual game)
    Otherwise - kind of nice.

Who needs to pierce the heavens when merely bumping the heavens gently would shred them?

Do you know how the conveyor system will work? In any case, the strategy that I am going for relies primarily on collecting all of the debris in one location, and hopefuly being able to feed it directly into storage or processors from there.

Pictured here is what will be the top of a new mining mothership... the docking area doubles as a collection area, and can funnel the ore down into the bowels of the ship for processing.

The idea is that you could pull up to an asteroid with the mothership, get real close... hop in your mining ship from the docking bay, and immediatly get straight to work, with all the debris being contained... When done just park again, and fly the mothership away with all of your ore in the hold... Multiple gravity generators should make sure that foriegn gravity fields do not cause all of your rocks to accidentally escape before it can be collected.

Even if this particular mining ship does not work out, these bays are big enough to accommodate a large range of ship sizes...

    Whoa, talkin about overkill...

It's good to have as much drills as possible to mine a shaft, but this amount is way too ridiculous dude.
But i can see this for another purpose:
Rofl 'o drifting through space, you see a enemy carrier inbound. You quickly activate your engines, fly into the their hangar and
activate your drills, whilst all the time you smash around like a madman to cause as much mayhem and chaos as possible.

    Now there's an idea! :D

I think that looks really cool! Drills won't work, how come? Maybe just leave the front ones on there then like a subway boring machine. I was thinking today about making just a wall of drills that essentially 'erase' any asteroids it comes to, like a Five-across-the-face :)

Dutch, I actually have a ship I'm working on exactly for that purpose :woot:.

Shred straight through the command deck or expose the engine room ready for a couple missile shots.. basically a tomorrow never dies [?] 007 type deal :woot:

I like the way you think... I had not thought of using it for that, but it would be perfect. I have tried make sure that the ship presents drill heads on every side, while still maintaining a consistent shape... It should be almost impossible to damage this ship unless you bang it on the corner of something at just the right spot.

Drills wont work because the game is in alpha and still has some glitches to be fixed. Once you hit 25 - 30 drills, the rest just stop working. I am still waiting for the day I can give this ship a real test run.
