Update 01.173 DEV - New Skybox

    Summary
    This week’s update comes with a new Skybox for the game along with other improvements. The skybox has a 4k resolution and features spectacular nebulae and many stars. Let us know your thoughts on the new skybox in the comments below. We also added some missing inverted window variants, this includes 1x1 and 2x1 inverted diagonals. You may have noticed it already, but there’s also a new model for the assembler!
    Block model LODs have been getting tweaked this week which should make the transitions more natural. Dead characters, wolves and sabiroids can now be looted again in survival and we resolved issues with players being able to clip through extended pistons.
    Work on the new HUD is progressing steadily with programmers beginning implementation this week but most of our resources are still going into improving physics, performance and multiplayer sync. Meanwhile, artists are continuing to work on updates and tweaks for the new models.

    Lastly, there’s an update for the STABLE branch today which contains features like voxel performance optimizations, physics engine and render improvements and updated block/component models + icons, taking it to version 1.172.     - fixed issues with looting dead bodies
    - fixed Medical Room physics issues
    - fixed Suspensions Wheel control panel remaining grayed out
    - fixed wrong bullet hole decals on blocks near windows
    - fixed ugly grinding particles when grinding inside a moving/falling ship
    - fixed particle effect of meteors explosion

    Hotfixes:


    - fixed issue with camera not being able to look around in 3rd person view/1st person view
    - fixed issue where turrets would keep shooting after auto locking on target and destroying it
    - fixed issue where promoting someone required the person to reconnect so that he may used his new rights.
    - fixed desync issue with the "can use all terminals" admin tool
    - fixed crash at Sandbox.Game.Entities.MyPlanet.BeforeDelete
    - fixed crash at at Sandbox.Game.Entities.MyShipController.UpdateShipInfo10

    edit: Everything looks great, especially the new sky box. There is however a problem though... Small grid merge blocks are now broken on both stable and dev versions of the game.

    I like the skybox. It feels overall brighter in space. Which is nice!

    Oh, i like that missing Window block. Didn't know the big ones were missing though. Never felt like they did.
    Skybox-Judgement:

    Assembler-Judgement: it's fine. Would like it more if it didn't look like any other bloody 2x1 new block model... they all turned into indistuingishable fridges.

    Search orginal homeworld release date and tell me about who copy skyboxes + many players using orginal skyboxes from homeworld in SE.

    Dont by mistake write date of remasterd version of homeworld :)

    Window blocks are nice to have, as it's always annoying to find you can't fill that gap with the right glass!

    Not convinced with the skybox. It looks pretty but I may well stay with my current 4K offering with just stars and no nebulae, as I prefer it's atmosphere.

    I am probably happiest abot the LOD fixing. There were some seriously ugly and apparant LOD swaps that detracted from gameplay they stood out so much.

    Pretty Skybox, personally I don't need it in 4k but it sure looks pretty so why not? :)
    Have the merge blocks and turrets been fixed? They don't seem to care where they shoot nowadays.

    Just loaded it up and my first words were "wow, oh wow". Very nice work Keen, oh so very nice. Maybe a little too much nebula but wow.

    Soooo... Did y'all fix small grid merges yet? Edit: Nope. They broke large grid merges too so now you cant build them from projections without hand welding lol (Turns out it wasn't the merges, it was the nerfed welder range)

    Ahh and I see that the armour textures still look like they need a good polishing :/

    Edit 2: Why in clangs name did y'all reduce large grid welder range?

    Love everything except the skybox. It's way too overdone IMO. When I think of space I think cold dark black emptyness. This seems like non-stop nebulae, when maybe one or two small ones in the distance would do. It's candy instead of steak.

    Anyone else having issues turning camera view in a vehicle while in 3rd person? I jump into a cockpit and my sound cuts out with a click, and I'm unable to turn the camera with left Alt. I can see from the character flashlight that it's spinning in the cockpit where there should be movement of view.

    Restarting and reloading a saved game while in a cockpit had sound and a moving camera view. Once I left the cockpit and returned, the above happened again.

    I would really like it if you fixed the disappearing planets. I am in singleplayer (offline world), and all have been eaten except for Mars (which I am on).

    That's affecting single player now, too? Well that's good news for those DS multi-players who are usually ignored and forgotten, because it means it will get fixed now*.

    New skybox too blurred. It can be clearly seen by the camera. 4K resolution is not enough for 2073:

    I was hoping that the missing windows == small block windows...

    The Server runs a bit better, but 3 crashes to desktop... 2 on the medbay selection screen (first after death, second after rejoining the server) and the last a minute ago as I was short afk and doing nothing in SE.

    And the Corner LCDs orientation is now also like the normal LCDs unknown until you built it up...

    The Skybox is to bright, no black there only dark gray. Don't know what displays keen use or are their rooms too bright? ;)

    The Problem of the Skybox is, that too many players have too different preferences. How would it be with 2-3 Skyboxs from what players could choose from? For this they don't like mods.
