Update 1.180.5 Minor - Beta Improvements

    Hello Engineers! There’s a batch of art and animation fixes in today’s minor update as the team moves ever closer to the next major update which will contain significant improvements to performance and multiplayer. Issues with model fixed this week include incorrect LODs on a number of blocks like the small grid merge block and small grid camera but also missing textures on blocks such as wheel suspension and the large ship welder. Moving on now to a couple of the notable animation issues that were fixed, using hand tools will no longer stretch the engineer’s arms and rifles should now aim where the crosshair is pointing.

    In other news, next Monday we will be streaming at 8PM CEST on the Keen Community Network over on Twitch. During the stream, together with Marek and Deepflame, we’ll be talking more about things being worked on and also taking a look at Medieval Engineers and it’s future plans. Marek will even be suiting up for the occasion in his personalized Roman armor!



    Fixes:
    - fixed models showing LOD1s instead of LOD0s
    - fixed wrong LODs on several blocks
    - fixed highlight of missile turret's control panel
    - fixed old icons displayed in inventories and production tabs
    - fixed crystal clear glass
    - fixed rifle doesn't aim where the crosshair is pointing
    - fixed too big hitboxes of blast doors and atmospheric thrusters
    - fixed missing textures on large ship welder and wheel suspensions
    - fixed small grid camera model and LOD
    - fixed emissivity color missing on several blocks
    - fixed tools making arms long

    btw.: some Window blocks (the side closing 1x1 triangular one for example) have the full 1x1 block as hitbox, instead of just the plane, where the actual window is...

    //edit: forgett the Window thing.... Keen Ninja fixed it^^
    i dunno why, butt keen tends to spare out a whole bunch of their work and are ninja fixing so much.. htx for that!

    Yep, minor improvements. Still really cool to see some of these fixes, especially the LOD ones; those tended to be especially annoying.
    I'm just getting more and more excited for the next major update, whether it just has the wheel physics or the full progression system. I do hope they make suspensions animated now, since it's always just looked kinda weird to have the wheels sliding in a groove.

    Always glad to see more bug fixes get implemented and stuff. Also the hype is real for those wind turbines still. looking forward to the next major update.

    I haven't played the game in a while so I have no idea what kind of "bug" they've "fixed" with this but the wording here is unfortunate at best. Windows are supposed to be crystal clear. Not scratched, not full of mushed, dead bugs (especially in space, and especialler on the inside of things in space) and not dark on one side for no reason. Can we get an elaboration on this? Was this a bug with the windows or with the construction component or... ?

    Speaking of animations.

    Can we fix this? When grinding small blocks i literally don't even see what i'm targeting anymore. It feels like the Grinder has grown in size a little for several updates in a row. (Yes, this is a low FOV setting but A) that needs looked at too unless you want to ladder FOV settings, and B) even @Xocliw on what i presume to be default FOV agrees.)

    minor improvements yay.....no more engineer rubber arm when he walks with the drill

    wonder when will wheels get an improvement?
    they were teased ages ago. :/
    I'd like wheels that don't freak out and can actually drive in a straight line without needing a gyroscope locked in override. wheels that don't randomly choose the direct they want to drive in.

    5 minor patches on a row. A lot of anticipation for the next major patch.

    All I mostly want is what was mentioned and poorly demonstrated in the 1.180.2 video.

    I don't think this is limited to wheeled vehicles. When using the jetpack, you'll notice that you never travel at whatever you've got in your crosshairs. Get into free space and then aim at a cube 200 meters away. Then press W with the block right in your crosshairs. Without compensating with the mouse, tell me where you end up at?

    I think this also translates to wheeled vehicles, you're wanting to travel in a straight line, but in reality you're drifting to one side or the other.

    Whole-heartedly agree. Their obsession with awful glass is nonsensical. It is not even dirty on the correct side anymore.

    Guys, this does not look better. Please just leave it clear. In the US alone, people spend more than $40 billion a year getting windows cleaned. There is a reason for this:


    No one likes dirty windows.

    You have some serious problems in the SE development. I just don't get why you guys keep on wasting time and resources to fiddle around with stuff that was fine before. Are you trying your hardest to get people to quit SE and move to ME instead?

    See, this is one of those times where I need to remind myself that Keen listens to their players. Because really, they do. Grid-based welders & grinders, planets, and many more things, which have vastly improved the game, were added because Keen listened to player feedback. They really do listen.

    Except then, every once and a while, they pick some utterly random thing and dig in like hell, ignoring all player feedback for no discernible reason. Like this; dirty windows have been unpopular since the day they were added, and that was months ago. It makes no sense.

    Edit: if they're going to fix something with windows, fix these wacky reflections we've been getting for the last two updates.
